Resisting the urge

It was a bright day, with a little more wind than usual. Lori had to keep brushing her already plentiful mane out of the way of the newspaper she was reading. The one she paid for. It was tempting but Canterlot would be much less forgiving and understanding than Ponyville if she were to get into any trouble.

"Mare who beat two noble ponies and put one in a coma caught in Ponyville...." She read to herself from the newspaper. "Figures such a small town has something interesting happen when I'm away." While she wished she could have been there to ask about it, Lori was happy to be in her birthplace of Canterlot. Ponyville was where she lived and worked but her visits to Canterlot were frequent.

"Figures. But I still wouldn't skip out on-"

A huge gust of wind suddenly blew down the street and over the table Lori was sitting at, trying to enjoy her lunch. The paper was pulled away from her and she scrambled after it to try and catch up.

"Drat! Come back here!" She trotted after it, but her long mane turned against her. It flung about in the strong wind and turned her head into a ball of mane, blowing over her eyes and face. Her tail was even worse as it tangled up in her legs and caused her to stumble and falter.

I need to rethink my manestyle...

It had been a long couple of days for Gordy. Canterlot never seemed like a good place for one of his performances. the unusually small crowd reflected that. slowly trotting down the street, Gordy quietly sung to himself one of the songs he performs regularly. The strong wind made it a bit difficult to sing when he was facing into it, but he coped.

seemingly from nowhere, a newspaper hits him in the face. Using his magic to levitate it, he looks around to see a mare having trouble with her own manestyle. trotting over, Gordy speaks up. "Excuse me, miss?" He started. "This newspaper belong to you?" he said as he used his magic to take off his sunglasses, revealing his baby blue eyes. it didn't seem very bright out anyway.

The wind began to calm down enough to make things manageable. Lori sighed at the mess she was now. Her mane all over her. Granted it was always a bit messy, but fashionable messy. Now it was probably a funny sight to see a fluff of mane with legs approach, bumping into things before stopping at Gordy.

"Probably, if i could see it. Thank you very much. Do you know if you have a comb on you?" She sat down, trying to fix her mane with her hooves. Turns out hooves do not make great combing appendages.

"Probably, if i could see it. Thank you very much. Do you know if you have a comb on you?"

Gordy held back a quiet chuckle at the sight. "I'm sorry, but I don't." His mane was never long enough to need one. his tail never was either. Keeping the newspaper levitating by the mare with mane problems, Gordy puts his sunglasses on his forehead. "I never introduced myself, I apologize. My name is Gordy."

Lori was intent on fixing her mane before giving her introduction. Well, at least partially fixing it. She never did a full out fancy styling. Parting the brush on her face with her hooves, she smiled wide with her golden eyes.

"Well hello there Gordy. I'm Lorenza, but call me Lori. Its a lot easier that way." She spoke with a slight Canterlot accent. Nothing uncommon here but noticed outside of the city.

Scanning over Gordy, she smiled at his glasses. "Nice sun glasses. I didn't think Canterlot ponies would be caught with those." She said as she reached up with her mouth to take the newspaper waiting for her.

Gordy chuckled at the comment on his sunglasses. "Well, quite simply, that's because I'm not a Canterlot pony." He said Smiling. "I live in Ponyville. I'm just here for a performance." Gordy secretly hoped the mare would pursue what he does for a living, but he took notice of Lori still seemingly having trouble with her mane. "Need any help with your mane ma'am?" He didn't know anything about manestyling, but he could do his best to at least untangle her.

Lori smiled a bit brighter at the mention of Ponyville. "Oh, Ponyville? Thats where I live! What a coincidence." The mention of him being a performer had her focusing on fixing her mane a little more.

"I didn't know Ponyville had musicians. I mean, I assume that is what you do, considering your cutie mark."

Not like I was staring at your butt or anything. She thought, smiling to herself and still lightly touching up on her mane.

Gordy was quite happy to have found somepony from Ponyville. all of the stuck up Canterlot ponies were starting to get on his nerves. He hadn't visited Canterlot before now for a reason. "haha, yeah, I'm a singer." He said happily. "And there are actually quite a few. I did a collaboration with a DJ from Ponyville not that long ago." The mare was still having quite a bit of trouble with her mane. looking around he sees a brush on a nearby table.

trotting up to the table, he asks the mare politely. "Excuse me miss, may I borrow your brush for a moment? My colleague is having a spot of mane problems." The mare looks at Gordy, slightly confused. She ends up smiling at Gordy. "Sure, just be sure to bring it back." "That won't be a problem ma'am. Thank you kindly." Trotting back over to Lori, He levitates the brush near her.

"You look like you may need a little help." He says, smiling.

Lori was fascinated to hear he was a singer. She had met a few who were 'in a band' that played various instruments, but never one that was a singer, and successful at that.

"I'm surprised I haven't heard of you. Then again, I haven't been in Ponyville too long and I'm not much a musical pony." She felt a blush come to her cheeks as the brush neared her. Was he going to brush her hair for her?

As he neared, she couldn't help but think about the proximity offering her a chance to maybe slip a hoof and take his personal belongings. Those sunglasses did look appealing....

Her train of thought started to make the silence noticeable.

Levitating the brush near her, Gordy spoke up. "I thought you might need this." If Gordy knew who Lori was a little better, he probably would have brushed her mane for her. but he didn't know if that would be considered polite or impolite. "Well, I haven't been in the business long. I just recently started traveling Equestria.This is my first time in Canterlot." He said matter-of-factly. "Judging by the turn out yesterday, it'll probably be the last time I'm here for awhile. Not my kind of crowd I guess." He finished with a small chuckle.

Lori realized that the brush was being offered to her. Chuckling with him to guise her embarrassment, she took the brush in her hooves and started to fix her mane up.

"Oh? Not a good crowd? I guess you are not an opera singer." She rolled her eyes. "Sometimes I feel like ponies stick to such strong noble stereo types just because it makes them more noble. Your glasses tell me you are more of a modern musician, no?"

Gordy chuckled as Lori commented on the snobby ponies. "yeah, I do a little bit of everything." He said proudly. "Except Opera, of course." He finished, laughing. Gordy could respect Opera because it had it's own share of difficulties. it was more difficult than rap, that much was certain. Waiting patiently for Lori to fix her mane, Gordy decides to continue conversation. "So what do you do, Lori?"

Lori finished fixing up her mane and gave it a good swing with her mane, brushing just past Gordy. A quick swipe of her hoof as her mane went by rewarded her with the sunglasses he had taken off earlier. A small thrill soared through her. Hopefully he wouldn't notice.

"Ah, there we are. Here you go." She tossed the brush back to him to distract him further from any suspicions he may have.

"What I do? Oh, I'm a psychologist. I got a chaise lounge for my cutie mark. I specifically study cutie marks and how they correlate to ones emotional state and well being. You would be surprised how much they can tell about a pony beyond just talent."

Gordy was surprised as Lori's mane had brushed past him. it was surprisingly long. shaking his head a little from the moment of seeing nothing but curly mane, he levitates the brush. "That's cool. imagine you've come across some very interesting things." He said with a smile. Bringing the brush back over to the mare, He nods in appreciation and makes his way back to Lori. as his way back, he tries to put his sunglasses back on with his magic. but the problem was, they were gone. looking around a little, the realization dawns on him.

"Lorenza!" He says angrily and glaring at her. "Where in Equestria are my sunglasses?" He tries to ask this as composed as he can, but he was always quick to anger.

Lori know she had already broken her promise to not take anything, but it was such an opportunity. She really hoped he would not notice or at least suspect her so soon. While being a kelpo, she was also an honest one.

With a huge silly smirk on her face, she held out her hoof with the sunglasses, trying to not break into a giggle fit and failing.

Well, at least Lori was honest. sighing, he uses his magic to take the sunglasses back and puts them on. "Thank you." He said calmly. "Care to explain what that was all about?" Gordy had mostly regained his composure already. He could certainly respect her honesty. He really didn't want to lose these sunglasses. they were his image. he normally doesn't care about his appearance, but those sunglasses were how he was recognized.

Lori was still giggling to herself, having to take a few moments to regain her composure and not upset him further. She did not wish for her new acquaintance to lose respect for her so soon.

"Well, I'm a kleptomaniac. I get a thrill out of that. Of course, I would be a failure at life if I were dishonest and actually stole things. So its always little things. And I give them back...Except in Ponyville sometimes I just leave a generous tip with the vendors. They know I like to pocket things." Lori said with no shame or hesitation, rather comfortable with admitting her faults.

Gordy nodded as Lori explained herself. "Alright. well. can't say I've ever gotten the chance to talk to a klepto." He said, having regained his well temper. "They've stolen from me before, but few are as honest as you. I respect that." It was the truth. if she tried to hide it, there'd be no hope for friendship. He can forgive honesty much easier.

"I wouldn't be much of a professional, especially a doctor, if I weren't honest." She beckoned him over to her table she was at earlier, her things still there. "I'm sorry you have been a victim. To be honest I was a little scared you might blow up on me and turn me in. It helps to be living in a small town."

She sat down and offered him a seat. "So, going somewhere? I was about to have lunch...." Lori intended to repay the inconvenience of stealing from him. Also she felt she could use more social connections as her clients were the only ponies she would see all day and could not see them outside of work.

"Care to join me?"

He had to give her that one. if she were a professional lier, she'd be a politician. well, either that or just a bad pony.

"So, going somewhere? I was about to have lunch.... Care to join me?"

Clearly Lori would be an interesting friend to have, but a friend worth having. He had been wanting to meet some new ponies anyway. "Sure." He said, making his way to her table. meeting his foalhood friend back in Manehattan had gotten him feeling the need to find some friends again. he needed some form of stress release anyway, and apparently, Social Interaction is one of the best forms of that.

Lori smiled as he accepted. She had an awfully boring evening ahead for herself. She was glad to have someone to fill the time with. Especially someone who was famous!...At least she thought. Most musical ponies seemed famous. Even when they were not.

"So...You enjoy movies? I am a bit of a movie nutter myself. When I'm not too busy with work that is." Memories of her staying up late at night drinking coffee came to mind.

"I try to keep up with movies and enjoy watching them, but I travel so much recently, I miss them all the time." Gordy thought about what movies could be out at the moment. this just proved his point. he had no idea what was even out right now.

"Aww. You look like you would enjoy a few movies that come to mind." Lori thought. Her eyes traveled on the horizon and froze on a particular pony.

"Oh...Well it was wonderful meeting you!" She said hastily, getting up and putting away her things. "But, uh....Well someone who is upset with me seems to be getting rather close. About time i caught that train going back to Ponyville! Ta ta, Gordy!" She gave him a wink and quickly began to trot off down the street. Whoever she had seen could not be identified among the crowd.
