A Little Help?

Blind Side had done it again. She thought she had this city memorized, but conflicting information from other ponies got her doubting herself. and she couldn't just check to see where she was, because she can't see anything. It was time to do what she found to be Embarrassing.

Taking off her goggles to reveal her cloudy grey eyes, she sits where she was and waits for the sound of somepony to go by. Hearing the clopping of hooves on the sidewalk, she speaks up. "E-Excuse me, I'm a bit lost." She hoped the pony heard her. he did. "just look for yourself, I'm in a hurry." She frowned at this. "But I'm bli-" The sound of a door closing cut her off.

after awhile of waiting, she was getting genuinely scared. she had no idea where she was, and nopony was helping. so far, few seemed to even notice that she was blind.

This is exactly why she needs to hire an assistant soon.

Thunder walked down the street, wearing his family crest on his chest as well as some official clothing. He had got out of a meeting, but was going down main street to pick up a snack while his grandfather went home. He was just about to walk into a corner store when he noticed a pony standing and asking for directions.

Thunder trotted up to the pony. "Hail guard." He said loudly, recognizing the pony as a member of the Guard. "Do you require any help?"

Brawny was trotting through Canterlot again. He seemed to be here more than his actual home. Granted, it was pretty small, and messy, and boring. Canterlot seemed much better. But the locals still haven't taken a liking to him. But what would he care? Oh yeah, it affects the tips they give. No matter, he was enjoying Canterlot. Might even move there if he gets enough money.

He looked over and saw a mare. She looked scared and confused. But she was also a guard. Odd. And Brawny thought he saw everything. He saw a Pegasus go up and ask if she needed help. He decided to be a good citizen and help out too. He approached the worried guard.

"Excuse me miss, are you alright? Need any help?"

As she sat and waited, she heard a stallion address her. Turning her head in the general direction she heard him from, she Smiles a little. finally, somepony to help! and then a second Stallion addressed her. "Yes, I do need help. I'm a little lost." She said, hoping they were close enough to hear. "I'm blind, so I Need to know where I am." This was embarrassing for Blind Side. She rarely feels as handicapped as she does when she's lost.

As Blind Side sat, she turns her head from side to side, hoping to get a better idea of where the stallions are.

Meteor Star was walking around not knowing where he should go to a friends or a store. He stopped and looked at the sky and hoping the clouds there would be gone by night when he heard a pony asking for help. He turned to see two ponys going to help and heard the other pony say that he's blind and lost. Even though he is new here he just felt like he had to help.

"Hello you said you were lost" he said to the pony after walking over there.

Thunder smiled and stepped closer to Blind Sides. "Well, I am always ready and pleased to help a member of the guard. You may not recognize me by my voice, but my name is Thunderclap. Lord Steelwing is my grandfather." He said.

Thunder acknowledged the other ponies who were coming to help. "I thank you for your assistance. I'm quite new to Canterlot myself."

Brawny noticed that quite a few ponies were coming to help this poor guard out. He didn't know she was blind. Must be why she's freaking out trying to find her way around. It seemed a bit impolite, but Brawny gently grabbed her chin and directed her head to the group of ponies who wanted to help her.

"We're right here. Hehe. My name's Brawny Hooves. I've been around Canterlot so many times. I could probably help you out to where you need to go."

He then looked at a pegasus who came thanking for the extra help towards the blind guard. "Anytime. Just trying to be a good citizen" He sat next to the blind mare. It seemed a bit strange seeing three stallions crowd a blind mare like that. "I'm sitting right next to you now." He wanted to make sure she didn't panic trying to find them again. That would be a bit sad

Blind Side's hopes of looking in the right direction were dashed when one of the Stallions turned her head for her. at least now she knew she was facing the right direction.

"We're right here. Hehe. My name's Brawny Hooves. I've been around Canterlot so many times. I could probably help you out to where you need to go."

"That would be much appreciated." She didn't need too much help, only a clear indication of where she was. but she was not about to turn down an offer to make sure she's getting it right.

"I am always ready and pleased to help a member of the guard. You may not recognize me by my voice, but my name is Thunderclap. Lord Steelwing is my grandfather."

The name Thunderclap was familiar, but the name 'Lord Steelwing' got her attention. "Lord Steelwing is your grandfather?" She said in a very excited manner. quickly regaining her composure, she puts her goggles with the blacked out lenses around her neck. "*ahem* Thank You. Sir."

"Hello you said you were lost?"

"Yes, I am. I was hoping to get to the store to get some food, but I overheard another pony saying this was somewhere else." This was embarrassing to admit. "I feared that I may have gotten confused. I thought I had this city memorized too. apparently not." She said, laughing a little to hide her embarrassment.

"Well I haven't been here much but I will try to help in any way I can" Meteor Star said now standing with the group. He would usually have a hard time talking to mares but the feeling of helping out another pony kept him from doing something stupid. "My name is Meteor Star but you can call me Meteor or Star." He said to the whole group.

Thunderclap nodded at the other two ponies. "Well, thank you very much for your help. I would not want to lift our friend here 50 feet into the air just to figure out where I'm going." He said and laughed.

Thunder laughed again at Blind Side's burst. "Yes, Lord Steelwing is my grandfather. I am being trained by him. Always my pleasure to help one of the guard. Its what he would do."

Wow, what a turn out just to help this poor blind guard. Seems like everypony was being a good citizen today. She also had an outburst of excitement about hearing about somepony Brawny never heard of. He was going to say something about it, but decided it was best not to. He didn't want to be the one singled out here.

"Need to buy some food? I can figure out where the food stores are at. And we have Thunder and Meteor to help if I acquire sudden amnesia and forget where everything is." Obviously, that was a joke meant to lighten up the mood a bit. He was quite good at easing tension and things of that nature. He got up off the bench, pulled the mare up on all fours, and began to lead her.

"I don't believe I caught your name, ma'am."

"Thank you Meteor. It's nice to meet you." She said smiling.

"Yes, Lord Steelwing is my grandfather. I am being trained by him. Always my pleasure to help one of the guard. Its what he would do."

This was so cool. Her idol's grandson was helping her! But she did her best to hold her emotions back. "Thank you again, sir."

"Need to buy some food? I can figure out where the food stores are at. And we have Thunder and Meteor to help if I acquire sudden amnesia and forget where everything is."

Blind Side giggled at this. apparently even the ponies who CAN see end up getting lost as well. that made her feel a little better. before she knew it, she was picked up and being lead. He certainly wasn't afraid to make a move. "My name is Blind Side. But my friends call me Side." She said as she put her goggles back on.

"Well hello side" he said looking at the pony. He has never heard og steelwing but he is also new here he'll probably hear of him sooner or later. Seeing ponys helping each other out made him happy. He loves to see others helping each other out.

" well i can help you with carrying things if we can get there." he said now smiling

Thunder nodded at the others. "Well, it seems like you are in good hooves here Miss Side." He said. "We'll get you to your store." Thunder began to turn his head and scan the immediate area. "Now, what kind of food are you looking for?" He asked.

Brawny began leading Blind Side down the streets, trying his best to remember his surroundings. He didn't know Canterlot perfectly. He still didn't live here. But he visited quite often. He decided to make conversation while he was leading this poor sightless mare. He had eye problems too. Which is why he wore glasses all the time. Without them, he couldn't see past a foot or two.

"So, miss Side, I'm assuming you're a local around here. What's it like living in Canterlot? I'm planning on moving here, once I can afford a house or something. My place in Ponyville is a dump. But at least it was better than Manehattan."

Passing through, he looked over and saw a store selling fancy clothes. Dresses, suits, tuxedos, things of that nature. He took a quick glance at it to some dresses. He was thinking he'd look good in one of those. Maybe he'd get one when nopony was around. He could say he was buying it for Calla Lily. Not like they would question it. Right?

" well i can help you with carrying things if we can get there."

Blind Side smiled at the generosity these stallions were showing. "Thank you very much, but I can carry my own groceries." she said with a smile.

"Well, it seems like you are in good hooves here Miss Side. We'll get you to your store. Now, what kind of food are you looking for?"

"Mainly just stuff to eat at home through the week so I don't have to go out and spend more bits than I have to." being a guard, she was payed relatively well, but there were still moments where she had to watch the bills carefully. on the bright side, she never had to pay a bit for lighting.

"So, miss Side, I'm assuming you're a local around here. What's it like living in Canterlot? I'm planning on moving here, once I can afford a house or something. My place in Ponyville is a dump. But at least it was better than Manehattan."

"Yeah, I was born and raised here." she said giggling at his comment about Manehattan. "It's not bad most of the time. sometimes you encounter some of the snobbier ponies and they could ruin your day." She said, still smiling. "My most common problem is the ponies who go out of their way to make me feel more handicapped than I already do."

Thunder smiled as he walked along with the other ponies. "Well, not even I have lived here my entire life. Canterlot seems like a nice enough town, from what I have experienced." He said, stretching his wings out before returning them to his side.

"So, please excuse my questioning Miss Side, but how does your handicap interfere with your job as a guard?" He asked, genuinely curious on how a blind pony could be an effective Guard.

Well, it was pretty much what Brawny expected to hear of this town. Nice place, but there are a couple jerks. But he didn't expect them to put the handicapped down. That's just not right. Oh well, can't win with everypony. Besides, didn't seem like the most tolerant of towns. Especially not to Brawny. That's one reason he wanted to live here. To bug the snobby ponies. It's what he always did. If somepony didn't want to around or hated you, be around them more. It'll annoy them, and it's funny.

"Well, when, or if, more like it, I get enough money to afford a place here, I'll certainly live here. Might take a while to get used to the higher class, but I can do it. And, not to be a jerk, I was also wondering how somepony like you manages being a guard."

"So, please excuse my questioning Miss Side, but how does your handicap interfere with your job as a guard?"

"Well, when, or if, more like it, I get enough money to afford a place here, I'll certainly live here. Might take a while to get used to the higher class, but I can do it. And, not to be a jerk, I was also wondering how somepony like you manages being a guard."

Giggling, she keep her head pointed forward. "You're not being a jerk by asking at all. It's a question I get a lot. In fact, that was the main concern when I was going through training." She said smiling. putting a hoof to her ear, she continues. "It's my hearing. Without sight, my other senses try to compensate. So I take the night-shift at the castle gardens."

She was quite enjoying explaining how she does her job. It was really making her feel like she has a vital role.

Thunder smiled. "Well, it seems like you still are just as eager to serve as any other guard I have met. Which is good. I'm pretty sure you woud get the pat on the back from grandfather." Said Thunderclap.

Thunderclap walked up to a storefront. "Well, here is a little nice, locally run corner store. Good prices, nice ponies who run it. I think you will find what you need in here." He said.

Brawny looked over to the store Thunder was pointing at. He went there a couple times. they certainly were good ponies. And Brawny is just now realizing that somepony from Thunderclap's family was a guard as well. Seems like Brawny's the only one without a family member who wasn't a guard or had a connection to Canterlot. Or at least none that he knew of.

Brawny slid over by the door and opened it for Blind. Why the slide? He was feeling good all of a sudden. A little flashy. Plus he usually does that when he helps somepony. Gotta look good when being a good citizen, right?

When Thunder mentioned his grandfather, Blind Side smiled widely. Getting a pat on the back from Lord Steelwing would be a dream come true. Arriving at the store, Blind Side stops and listens. "you certainly can't beat nice ponies and good prices." She said, smiling.

Approaching the door, she sticks a hoof out in front of her and feels around. The door was open. "Thank you kindly." She said as she made her way inside. "I'd hate to ask this, but could one of you help me out some more? It's a little hard to know what I'm getting when I can't read the labels." Blind Side hated being a burden. These Stallions probably have their own lives to live after all.

Thunder smiled. "Well, I would be more than happy to help you read the labels. I'm pretty sure our friend Brawny here would not mind doing it either." He said, playfully patting Brawny on the back, maybe a little harder than he meant to.

"So, what exact food are you looking for? Veggies? Fruit? Bread? Anything like that? Just tell you're pal Thunder and I will try and find the best for you." Said Thunder, looking up and down the aisles.

(( It's been 3 days, I'm skipping Brawny. I honestly can't blame you for not posting though, Brawny. Creativity in this thread is running dangerously low.))

Blind Side thought about this for awhile. "I was thinking of getting some stuff for some soup and sandwiches. nothing real expensive. I have to watch my budget for a little while." It was true. She was running a little low on bits.

(Eeyup. Isn't the most interesting of threads. But i'll see how long I can last)

Brawny trotted around the store, looking for the food Blind said she needed. A guard low on bits? You know something's wrong when the usually drunken metalhead who strums a guitar all day long makes more money than the guard. Wait, he heard that wrong. She was running low. Anypony can run low on bits. Things just made sense again.

"Well, I could lend you a few bits, if ya want. I have a good amount to spare."

Brawny pulled out a sack of at least thirty bits. Not a whole lot, but still quite a bit for the guy without a real job. Which reminded Brawny, he should consider working if he wanted to live in Canterlot.

"Hey, just out of curiosity. Do you think there are any places around here that are hiring at all? I could use the extra money."
