| This is something I wrote up in the cb when we were discussing head-canons. First, this head canon: - Spoiler:

[18:08:25 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : Celestia then manipulated things so that the elements of Harmony would evetually live there when Luna returned.

[18:26:48 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : The Earth Ponies had put forward the hustling, bustling merchantile metropolis of Manehatten as their candidate.
[18:27:24 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : The Pegasi had chosen their 'Jewel of the Sky', the beautiful city of Cloudsdale.
[18:28:09 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : After much deliberation, the unicorns decided on the rather strange entry of Cantercliff.
[18:28:45 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : Most of the choosing was a huge argument between the Earth ponies and the Pegasi.

[18:30:37 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : The Pegasi pointed to Manehatten's crime and pollution, whilst the Earth ponies argued that the city in the sky was too inaccesable to the other races and was too 'schmancy' to be a 'proper, working city'.

[18:31:22 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : Design just kept silent until Princess Celestia addressed him directly.
[18:32:34 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : 'YOU HAST BEEN QUIET SO FAR UNICORN," said she, "WHY DOST THOU [Oh god] BELIEVE YOUR PROJECT SHOULD ME MY CAPITAL?"
[18:33:07 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : Design said nothing at first, instead laying down the drawings of what he had built so far.
[18:34:11 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : If a modern pony were to look at it, they would not recognise the city the drawings depicted. It was far too simple, too empty, too...
[18:34:47 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : It was because of this that the Eath ponies and the Pegasi had dismissed the Unicorns as a serious contender.

[18:41:05 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : This was not met with silence, and Celestia had to raise her already raised voice to let Design continue.

[18:42:16 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : "Cloudsdale can only work with a certain number of clouds before it literally falls apart."
[18:42:36 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : He pointed at his drawings.
[18:43:22 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : "I focused on not pumping out a great city now, but rather sowing the seeds for a fantastic city."
[18:44:13 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : "The way my design works is that every generation after can build on what their forefathers built before."
[18:44:50 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : "Cantercliff may be a young city, but it is a city with ambition."
[18:46:03 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : "An ambition that will last for many years to come, for our children will have dreams of their own, as will their children."
[18:46:54 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : "I think this city should be the new capital because it will grow with the New Equestria, and thus be a symbol for what our Kingdom represents."

[18:49:25 28/07/13] @ dontpressenter : Cantercliff had its name changed to Canterlot. Design received the title 'the Ambitious' and started a noble bloodline that continues to this day through the Noble Design family which bears its name.
