Parent Ponies!

As you of course know, you guys have really interesting and neat ocs, which made me wonder a bit about their parents and what about them that was not included in your character's bio.

So tell me... what was your character's relationship with their child? Their looks? Upbringing? TELL ME EVERYTHING OR I WILL KILL YOU ALL- I mean, please explain.


I'm curious!

Well, I should exclude Lunar's and Blind's parents or you might get depressed. especially with Blind's. But, Erigo had a good upbringing. always laughing and teasing about everything, always supportive, etc.

~Calla Lily~

Calla Lily was orphaned when she was seven, when her parents, who were mountain patrollers, were caught in an avalanche and killed, saving their town of Buckingridge in the process. She loved them very dearly, but rarely talks about them, due to the tragic story behind their names. Fret not: Calla went off to Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns early, so she wasn't by herself for more than a few weeks. Her mother's name was Water Lily, and her father's was Snow Frost. Calla Lily's full name is McCallum Lily Hooves (née Frost), but she never gave anyone her last name, purely because she didn't want to think about her past very often, just introducing herself as Calla Lily. Water Lily was blue, with white hair and a white lily cutie mark, and Snow Frost was pure white with a bluish gust of snowy wind as his cutie mark. Calla's mane and tail color came from her great-grandmother on her mother's side, while the somewhat layered hair came from her father.

~Rosella Petals~

Rosie doesn't talk about her parents either, but for a much different reason. Rosie's father, Mach Echo, went off to fight the beginning of Sombra's reign when Rosie was a filly, never to return. Rose's mother, Ember Flare (so named after the fiery appearance of her crystal body), was an awful mother to Rose, especially when Sombra got his full grip on the Crystal Empire. Rosie was left to fend for herself from the age of ten, and it was even worse when she was forced into slavery with the rest of her ponies. She never saw her mother after that began, and she doesn't even want to search, even after the time skip. If asked, she speaks of her mother as if she were dead. Ember Flare was fiery orange, with Rosella's red hair, but worn much shorter. Her cutie mark was--you guessed it--a flame. Mach Echo was Rosella's mint green, giving her the streaks in her hair and the coloring of her body. He had a vibrating gem as his cutie mark. Rosella's Dissociative Identity Disorder was a result of the way her mother mistreated her and her ordeal under Sombra's rule.


Amina, obviously, was born in Saddle Arabia. Unlike my first two OCs, her parents had an active role in her life, and will continue to so when she returns to her home. Her father, Munir, spent a lot of his time working, trying to make a living for his family. Their family was odd in the sense that they believed that all ponies, male and female, deserved a chance at learning. Imsa, Amina's mother, taught Amina and her elder sisters to read and write, as Munir had taught her to read and write, while Amina's elder brothers went off to school. The whole family was beside themselves when the dictators were taken down and Saddle Arabia's mares gained their rights with their new princess, the first mare on the throne of Saddle Arabia's history. Imsa is white, with the pink-violet mane that she gave to her daughter, and Munir is tall and sandy colored.

~Cloud Dancer~

Back to the dramatic orphan ponies! Cloud Dancer was unintentionally abandoned by her mother, whose name is unknown, because the single mare could not afford to care for her child. Cloud was given to a shopkeeper and his wife to be taken care of until the mother could return for her foal. It is assumed that Cloud's mother did not survive that winter. Cloud Dancer is the spitting image of her mother, except for the eyes, which are credited to her father, or as she remembered being told. Cloud Dancer's mother's cutie mark was a pair of white angel's wings.

~Erika Darknight~

I explained a lot about her parents in Erika's bio, but the short version is that Erika was, again, living without ever knowing her parents (I DON'T KNOW WHY BUT MY OCS HAVE BAD PARENTS). Her parents, respectable earth ponies in a respectable, mostly earth pony-inhabited Colterea, were appalled when their expected one foal turned out to be two, and one of them was a dreaded unicorn. Unicorns were frivolous, lazy ponies, in their "respectable" opinion, and it was a secret that Erika's, then Sapphire's, mother had attempted to keep hushed up. Her grandmother had been a unicorn, thus giving Sapphire her horn. At a loss for what to do to keep her lineage secret, the Darknight dropped little Sapphire in a ditch on a trip to Equestria and ran back to Colterea (sort of, they were on a boat) as fast as they could. Sapphire was raised in an orphanage. Both Mother and Father Darknight are white, as is most of the homogeneously ethnic Colterea, but Erika's twin, May, inherited great-grandmother unicorn's gray fur. Both parents also have raven hair. Mother Darknight's cutie mark is a compass, and Father Darknight's is a star.


Not much to say about her, since her lineage is obvious (Calla x Brawny, if not so obvious). Erm... her parents love her with all of their hearts?

~Dr. Clear Mind~

Well, Clear Mind's mother was single. She died in a carriage accident when Clear was just starting high school. Clear's mom's name was Sharp Mind (heh, see what I did there? With all of their names? Clear Mind, Straight Mind, Ideal Mind, Sharp Mind... muahahahaha), appropriately named for her unfortunately wasted intellect, as she was a poor mare, working as a waitress to support her three kids (suspiciously fathered by the same stallion... o.o). Sharp Mind's cutie mark was a question mark inside of a solved Rubik's Cube. She was light, light purple, with a deep blue mane and Clear's purple eyes. The rest of Clear's features came from her blasted father's side of the family.



Aaaaaand... that's it.

....A chance to talk about Misfit's parents?

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT. *GASPS IN AIR*

Misfit had one mother and one father, married. Her mother was a kind, warm, and sociable pegasus named Ginger Snap. Her coat was a very light pink, and her hair was orange. She had a, surprise, cookie and heart as her cutie-mark(probably). She was known for giving free samples to foals after school at her self-owned bakery, though it was co-owned with her best friend's aunt. Other pegasi usually didn't like her job choice, since it was what 'earth ponies' were supposed to do. Though she was known to be sweet and nice, she could tend to put on a mask to hide things, and perfected the fake smile, since she hated conflict. Because of this, she could have a tendency to micro-manage, but was an all around good pony.

Misfit's father, Mandrake, on the other hand, was a intelligent unicorn who taught at the academies and colleges in Canterlot. He was a wonderful teacher, and treated ponies respectfully, but had huge and stubborn opinions. Most of them were right, but it didn't shape to society's views, so he was looked down upon, and generally made an outcast. No pony would say anything outright to him, though. He was a unicorn professor, so you couldn't say much smack without the heat turning to you. Haven't really thought of a cutie-mark yet, but it'd have to do something with teaching, morality, and intellect.

But all households had problems. Mandrake could be rather bipolar in moods, especially when he got home from work. Because of this, and both the parent's stubbornness, they tended to argue. A lot. Her father usually had the 'better' points and views, but he went about it so aggressively that it didn't even matter. All Misfit would have to do is utter a single word, and she was tugged into the mess.

...At least it taught her how to win and argument. And how much time-wasting arguments can be.

But even with this, Misfit had a pretty lovely upbringing. The 'fights' never got over anything than yelling and maybe a curse or two(or in Mandrake's case, a couple dozen), and never, ever would they ever even think to bring in violence. Both of her parent's loved her dearly, and she knew it, even if they sometimes got really busy. Her father treated her with respect, still like a foal, but not some bumbling baby on strings. Her mother was tender and caring when she needed to be, but also knew when to lay down the law.

She had a special relationship with her father. Her father played with her and was usually the one to stay at home to watch her, and they sung together all the time. Misfit would take out the pots and pans and the chopsticks for drums, Mandrake would use the turkey-baster for a microphone, and the stereo would be go on for hours. Her dad had a beautiful voice. He also read tons of stories to her, which gave them the material for tons of inside jokes.

In all, Misfit had a pretty good life growing up, and a loving family with just a few flaws and problems.

AND THEN THEY BOTH DIED AND SHE WAS LEFT ALONE ON THE STREETS AT THE AGE OF EIGHT AND A HALF AND HAD TO FEND FOR HERSELF.

THE END

The sad fact is that you cannot, and should not, be with them forever. Foalhood is about growth, and one shouldn't restrict that with meaningless barriers. Do not treat your children as servants, slave to your whims and fancy. Instead, treat them as what they are; the caretakers of the future. So instill in them all that is good and beautiful; feed their curiosity, nurture their skepticism. They should do the right thing not just to please you, or out of fear of your wrath; they should do the right thing because it is right. Teach them to question, teach them to reason. Teach them to learn, for the future holds many lessons that we cannot know. Do this, and your pride for them will follow.

Cranium’s Parents:

Cranium’s mother went by Crystal Chains and owned a well known jewelry store. She strived to have a high position in society and tended to be very clingy to ponies she found important. She was also very clingy to Cranium’s father- but for a very different reason. She truly loved him, she would do anything to make him love her more. He was probably the only pony she die for, though I can’t say the same for him.

Him on the other hoof, was cold and uncaring. Though at first his love for his wife had been just as fierce as her’s, over time he had gotten tired of her, and over even more time he had begun to hate her. ( He never divorced her because he didn’t want to be “one of those ridiculous broken families” )He was rarely around because of business trips and the like, and when he was, he ranted strongly, sometimes even screaming about his views, his wife nodding eagerly to every word he spoke.

He could be quite cruel, and hurt Cranium’s mother often when he was at his home- not with his hooves or weapons- but with words, words that pricked her painfully like needles, and often even like sharp knives. She was hurt and confused by all this, for her husband never told her quite why he hated her so- maybe it was her annoying clingy ways, or perhaps she just wasn’t good enough. Usually he just made small side comments that made her flinch, or apologize profusely. Other times, he would scream at her, not daring to physically hurt her, but hurting her nonetheless. She would sob in a curled up small ball on the floor, always whimpering the same thing.

“ But I love you…”

If their son was in the room, he usually silently left the area. Cranium didn’t want to end up like his mother, so he adopted his father’s cold ways. If his father said something to him, he bit back with an equally cruel insult. The two avoided each other anyway, so rarely did they have such an encounter. His father liked to pretend he didn’t have a son, and Cranium pretended he didn’t have a father.

His mother tended to coddle him, which Cranium strongly disliked. However, he usually put up with his mother gushing how much he looked like his father, or how he acted like him, or how he was just as smart as he was, and the hugging, and even when she squeezed him harder than she should, shaking with racking, strangled sobs. After all, she was his mother. What was he supposed to do, kick her?


Aster’s parents:

These two were quite the couple. Aster’s dad was a bodybuilder who loved to exercise and such. He even tore phonebooks apart, just to show he could. This fellow had an incredibly annoying positive attitude. About to fall off a cliff? What an adventure! Been robbed? What a fantastic opportunity! Broke a leg? No pain, no gain! He adored setting goals and meeting them, they made him feel proud and accomplished.

Now, if you ran into Aster’s mother in the streets, you would likely scream. She was huge- not in fat, but in muscles. Lots. And lots. Of muscles. She was famous for her drill sergeant style voice, and had been a dedicated royal guard, with the scars to prove it.

When Aster was born, they were thrilled. The couple was very excited to watch their son grow into an amazingly tough and athletic pony, better than the likes of ponykind had ever seen! They called their foal “ Crusher Deathbite Megastrong”, fed him protein shakes as baby food, and his mother regularly screamed at him to make sure he would get alert hearing, and his father happily gave his foal a 15 pound weight to play with. ( Which resulted in a trip to the hospital for the foal.)

As Crusher Deathbite Megastrong grew up, they continued to be oblivious to the fact that he was certainly not destined to be a great bodybuilder or a soldier. Instead of being heroic, brave, and strong, he was squeamish, scared stiff of anything that moved, and weak. Even when he got his cutie mark and he went as far to change his name to “Aster” before that, they trained him even harder, now aiming to get him a position as a royal guard.

His parents loved him, they really did. They were just loving the wrong pony.


Finn’s parents

If there was one thing An was, it was plain. The young mare was plain but sweet, and rather timid. She had a coltfriend who was rowdy, loud, and a troublemaker, and top of that he was rather handsome. She often found herself being dragged into whatever he was doing, be it stealing, vandalizing the nearest aristocrat’s mansion, or hanging out in an incredibly shady hub. An never did any of the things her coltfriend did- she was far too scared. Instead, she nervously watched him from a safe distance.

It wasn’t long before he convinced her to do something much bigger- resulting in a foal. Her family found out, and was disgusted after they heard their 16 year old daughter was a mother, and it wasn’t long before they knew about the other things she and her colt friend had been doing. They refused to allow her to continue living with her, and even went as far to destroy all her belongings, erasing every trace of her. An was devasted, and went to the only pony she knew (or at least hoped) cared about her. She returned to her coltfriend, and for awhile, things continued to be the way they were before. And then the fire nation attacked. That is, her foolish colt friend refused to accept his end of a bargain he had made with a violent gang, and they both paid the price.

The foal had been left in their sorry excuse of an apartment, and was soon found by a friend who had came to check up on them. Itty bitty Finn was taken to the orphanage and BLOSSOMED INTO THE JERKALICIOUS IDIOT WE KNOW TODAY!

^ Oh my gosh, Happy, "Chrusher Deathbite Megastrong." I can't stop laughing. xD

Anyway, I don't want to think up a story for Leafy and Ranmione (I need a nickname for her! D:) so let's start with Green Cream, expanding on everything I put into the history already. :D

A pair that were polar opposites, Strong Seed and Mist Dasher. Mist was an odd pegasus, suspicious of everything. ("No! I don't trust the friendly smile of that cashier...") She was pessimistic and found problems in every situation. Honestly, Green Cream was sheltered and protected when she was with her mother, which caused her to avoid her when going out, though she was otherwise a good parent, caring for her child and buying whatever dhe wanted. Well, at least everything she deemed safe, which wasn't a whole lot.

Strong Seed, on the other hand, was different. He was a muscular stallion who would seldom look before he leaped, and he could have gotten himself killed if not for his wife, who stopped him before he did anything dangerous. As expected, he got scars often, and liked to tell Cream 'fascinating' stories about things he did as a foal. (That did more harm than good, she had a fear of toasters for a while) He could handle those wounds pretty well. His strength suited Mist, as he could defend her any day.

Petal Stone doesn't have a good relationship with her parents. It's nopony's fault in particular, mind you! Being an Earth Pony in a family of Pegasi isn't always easy! Especially when Featherspry and Autumn Breeze live in Cloudsdale.

Featherspry is a Ponyville native, and the daughter of a pegasus and an earth pony. She moved to cloudsdale when she grew old enough. She married and had two colts with a stallion called Autumn Breeze before Petal Stone was born. Shortly after, she was given to Featherspry's ponyville father, Slate Root. While Featherspry and Autumn Breeze visited often, Petal Stone honestly has little experience with her parents, and came to resent their lax attention and constant disappointment in her lack of wings.

Petal Stone was much closer to her grandfather, Slate Root. Slate was a thoughtful fast talker with a quick wit to back up anything he did or said. While his trade was masonry, his hobby was fossils, on which he spent many blissful afternoons with his grandaughter. Time and time again, he drilled into his grandaughter the value that everything inherently has, no matter how old or boring unseeming something may be. This is a lesson that Petal Stone absorbed, and recognizing value would become her special talent.

Petal Stone was heartbroken when Slate Root died of old age, and ran away even as a filly as opposed to try to live with those who didn't understand her and didn't care to.

Well, since everyone else seems fine with sharing depressing backstories, I'll share Blind's and Lunar's as well.

Both Blind and her father were members of the Royal Guard during the changeling invasion. they were both on duty at the time, but only Blind made it through. Her mother blamed Blind for his death since Blind was also on duty at the time, and left. Blind now lives alone in Canterlot in the home she grew up in.

Lunar has a good relationship with her mom, but she never knew her father. When her mom found out she was pregnant with Lunar, the father split. Her mom (obviously) decided to raise Lunar anyway. Lunar still lives with her mom in Canterlot.

Yeah, sorry about that Blind. I surprised myself with all that unneccesary drama of mine!

haha, it's fine! I like telling their stories! ^.^ I am pretty proud of Blind Side on most counts anyway lol
