Gender: Mare

Species: Pegasus

Mane: Long, wavy, and just a little bit unruly. The main color is Texas yellow (#FFFF66), with two stripes running down the middle that are heliotrope (#9966FF) and screamin' green (#00FF00). Her mane is pulled over the left side of her face and partially covering her eye, with a small cerice-colored (#CC0066) hair-tie near the bottom.

Tail: The same as mane. Wavy and long, with the Texas yellow base, heliotrope and screamin' green stripes, and cerice hair-tie.

Eyes: Average size for a mare and the color of zest (#FF9900). They are nearly always seen half-closed. Nova also has Texas yellow-colored freckles under each eye, on her cheeks.

Body: Small, slightly chubby, and shorter than the average mare. The color of bunting (#000066).

Cutie Mark: An orangey-red planet with silver rings over a blueish-white crescent moon, with two silver stars around them.

Age (Baby,adult): Adult (22 human years)

Personality: Although at first glance Nova typically comes off as either really bored or really tired, she is neither. She is naturally slow-moving, doesn't make many facial expressions, and has a rather monotonous voice, but she is far from dim-witted and surprisingly perceptive.  Nova doesn't really care that she's slower than most ponies. She enjoys talking to friends but also enjoys her peace and quiet. This small pegasus is also a night owl, her prime focus being the night sky.

Likes: Nighttime, stars, the moon, her telescope, planets, coffee with bagels, cake, flying at night

Dislikes: Races, bullies, rude ponies, strong winds, lots of clouds at night, loud noises, big thunderstorms

History: Nova was born in Cloudsdale to two pegasi, like many other pegasi in Equestria. She was an only child, but that didn't affect her too much. Her parents were very attentive to her needs yet at the same time, they weren't overprotective. Besides, she was an easy filly to take care of. Her parents never knew why she was always so slow-moving, but they were a firm believer of the idea that ponies are made the way they are for a reason. Therefore, there was a reason that their only child was slow and they weren't gonna tamper with that.

The dark-colored pegasus was fascinated with the night sky ever since she could see it, however her obsession didn't really get started until she was around 5 years old, when she got her hooves on her father's telescope. It wasn't a super powerful telescope, just a regular one, but the idea that there was a device that allowed her to see past the moon and stars was absolutely incredible. Nova happened to be the first foal in her class to get her cutie mark, after she documented what was going on in the night sky for a month. While it was relatively uneventful, it did make her realize that she wanted to be an astronomer when she grew up.

Unfortunately, this and her excessive slowness started to cause some problems in school. Nova was very smart and always got good grades, which caused some of the not-as-smart foals to get mean. They bullied her about her newly-found cutie mark, her brains, and her slow-moving nature. One of the favorite names she was given was "Slow-va." But she never let the bullying get to her, at least not in public. In fact, she tried her best to ignore it and managed to do pretty well.

Nova passed through her school career with flying colors, then in an effort to become an astromer, became an intern under an old, famous astronomer in Canterlot. She left home when she was around 17 to take the job and was promoted to assistant within a year. She remained an assistant until she was 21, when the astronomer died of old age. Although heart-broken, she quite readily accepted the astronomer's job position when it was offered to her. Nova continued to live and work in Canterlot for another year until she decided to move to Ponyville. She enjoys Ponyville much better than Canterlot because Ponyville is smaller and quieter, but she still makes frequent visits back to Canterlot and Cloudsdale to see friends and family.

"What're YOU looking at, shortstop?"

The tone of voice that came out of that older foal's mouth was shocking. Nova hadn't heard that in a long time. Although it didn't bring back particularly pleasant memories, she was going to brave through that to help the little filly that had been getting bullied by this brute of a colt.

The dark-colored pegasus slowly turned her whole body so that she was facing the colt and moved forward until she was right up in his face. Ignoring the fact that they were roughly the same size, she narrowed her eyes more than usual and intoned, "I'm looking at a big jerk, that's what I'm looking at. Stop bullying that filly."

The bully looked momentarily surprised before regaining his ugly scowl. "Oh yeah? And what's a slowpoke like you gonna do about it?"

Nova simply smiled at him before sticking her hoof out and swiping the bully's legs out from under him, moving faster than was expected. Before he could hit the ground she butted him with her shoulder, putting him flat on his back. Although she wasn't a particularly violent pony, she could put somepony on the ground if she had to.

The colt now looked pretty scared, because Nova definitely didn't look as strong as she was. The pegasus didn't say anything else, her orange gaze boring into the colt's with a quiet intensity. It was obvious that he had not expected to get apprehended today, or any other day, for that matter. He made the wise choice to get up and run away, leaving Nova behind to deal with the filly. Nova turn her head to look at the foal, giving her a small, reassuring smile.

"Come on, let's get you home. He won't be bothering you anymore."
