| No worries. part of the reason I retired was because work was taking up all of my time and didn't have much to spare for this place. So, I understand :) | |

| I'm doing awesome! ^^ Things are getting much more relaxed now that the beginning of semester rush has died down a bit, so I should be around much more frequently! :D
I'm taking a glassblowing course this semester which is super fun but REALLY intense, 2000 degree furnace and molten glass WOOHOO.
I really really miss RPing so I definitely wanna try and jump into some things and reply where I need to! ^^

| I'm only in beginning right now and we're not allowed to use color, so right now we're just learning how to make basic shapes and all the starting stuff, like getting comfy with the equipment and building our tolerance to the heat(It is REALLY intimidating goodness), since to gather the glass on the blowpipe you have to stand within 3-4 inches from the 2000 degree furnace haha, it takes a lot of getting used to!
But goodness it's fun! I definitely plan to take the Intermediate class next semester if I can, that's when we get to learn how to start using color!
I love doing things like this though, before I transferred to Uni I took an art metals where we mainly did soldering and casting with bronze and copper...I might be a bit of a pyro LOL. I tend to gravitate to classes where I get to play with fire.

| But but but fire is fun! We are all a bit pyromaniac at heart! And oh gosh! that sounds painful to stand that close to the fire omg... How the heck do you stand that close?? And how the heck don't you get badly burnt?? I'd be leaving there with major scars! There's equipment of some kind, right?! Does glass produce smoke? If so, I can imagine the visual and lung scarring *shiver* | |

| http://fmscblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/DSC_0419-300x449.jpgThis isn't OUR furnace but a good example of what the set up looks like and how close you get! You have to get close enough to be able to see inside the furnace so that you can watch for the reflection of the pipe on the glass inside, so you know when and where to dip! You DO get some gnarly heat rash along your hand and arm, I wear some Kevlar sleeves to take down the burn a bit, but those can only do so much! I usually leave class with my hand very very red and splotchy haha, but your skin gets used to it and builds tolerance the more you do it! It's definitely dangerous work though, everything has to be done just so because the glass can easily explode, I haven't been cut or burned YET, but me and a friend were standing in to observe a guy in the advanced class and he almost cut the tip of his finger off picking up a piece, it was really gnarlyyyy. So it can be intimidating but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who got the chance to take one! It's honestly super fun! :D | |
