In order to awaken a new dawn, the sun must set to eventually renew its former glory in the sky. But for several hours in between, the darkness gets its turn to sweep over the land. The soft glow of the moon would dominate the sky as many retreated to their houses to rest. But many know a city as big in population as Canterlot never truly sleeps. As the evening slowly came to its end, some ponies would stay awake populating the streets even during these dark hours.
With all of these ponies out and about, it was just as likely for trouble to come, if not more so, now than during daylight. Though many of the royal guards who protected the city from these dangers had drifted away into their dreams, some must stay awake to guard the night. Nightsong was well adapted to staying up all night, just as the majority of her breed was. Her bright yellow eyes would peirce through the shadow, allowing her to see well in the dark. Waiting in the clouds above, she observed the ponies down below as they went about their business. Many she recognized, as they were usually here at this time as part of their routine, but there were also many new faces. While there was nothing better to do, the bat pony decided she could perhaps go and talk to some of them.
First, she double checked the area, scanning from above to make sure there was no trouble. Once she knew for certain there was nothing for her to do, she landed on the ground and wondered who she should talk to.
