Sneaking Around

~Cupcake Dream~

I tiptoed through the square, trying to avoid other ponies, to get the least amount of attention. For this mission, it would be crucial not to be notice. If I didn't succeed in this, Delicious Delights would get a huge drop in attention. And that would be BAD. Period. Everything we had been working on for two months would fail, my aunt angry at me.

The mission, as she had presented it to me, was simple: inflitrate Sugarcube Corner. I had to find out what got them so much attention, so that we could up our level of rivalry with them. It wouldn't be easy though, considering I was one of the only two bakers back at Delicious Delights. That was why my mane had been dyed purple, my cutie mark covered with a skirt, and my glasses replaced by contacts that really itched. But itchy eyes were a small matter compared with property. Right?

Finally, I was here. Sugarcube Corner, looking so pastel compared to our hospitable shop. Or so I liked to think. I could feel my hooves trembling as I approached. What if they recognized me? What if I was shamed? What if-

"Whoa! Oof!"

As I entered the shop, I tripped over my skirt, falling, now sprawled on the floor of the shop. The shout had been louder than I had thought it would be, causing ponies to turn heads at me. I felt my whole body go red, if that was possible.

"Um...sorry?"

IRON KETTLE

Waiting in line patiently for his turn, Iron Kettle scanned the numerous amounts of confectionary sweets with a greedy look in his eyes. There was one thing in particular that he was paying special attention to! He figured a nice array of yummy cupcakes would be a great way to celebrate the start of a slew of new opportunities between him and his sister, Teacup! After all, who could say no to these delectable treats?

His thoughts where abruptly halted when he suddenly heard the shout of a young filly before she hit the floor. Everyone in the shop stopped what they were doing to stare at the pony. The filly seemed to be in quite the predicament with that odd skirt. Clothes were something that Iron Kettle didn’t mind, but they seemed tedious at best.

Since everypony seemed a little too stunned to do much, Iron Kettle cleared his throat and stepped out of his place in line to go help her. Making his way over, he saw that she had quite a fall, and could only imagine how much it must have hurt. His low, tenor voice spoke to her warmly as he reached out to pick her up off her feet, “Here, let me help you.”

When he was satisfied that she was back on her hooves, he gave her a concerned look, “You all right?”

"I-I'm f-fine," I stuttered, standing up to look at the warm stallion. "T-thank y-you, s-sir. My skirt is so long, but so necessary when it comes to my cutie mark."

I added that last bit in, remembering my cover story. Today I was not Cupcake Dream. I was Star Shine, teenaged blank flank, just coming in for a cupcake. It would still be a miracle if nopony recognized my voice.

"W-well, I-I'd better look at the treats, to see what I want," I squeaked awkwardly. "Thanks again, sir." Still blushing, I turned back....only to face Mrs. Cake.

IRON KETTLE

The little filly seemed extremely nervous about something and Iron Kettle just couldn’t quite put his hoof on it. Something was strange. Off, if you could say that. Nervously she talked about the length of her skirt and suddenly things made a little sense. It was a common practice for older colts and fillies to cover their flanks if they were late in obtaining a cutie mark. Iron Kettle could sympathize all too well with that.

“Well don’t stress yourself out too much with clothes that are hard to walk in,” he cautioned her gently, “It’s perfectly acceptable to show a blank flank. It just means your potential isn’t known yet.”

It seemed, however, that the little filly was too nervous to get much out of his words. She thanked him and went off to find herself something to eat. But as she was about to turn away, it appeared that she turned around right into another pony, the owner to be more exact. Something about the way the young filly looked at the mare made it seem that trouble was likely to be brewing pretty soon. Although what, exactly, Iron Kettle was clueless on the matter.

Not feeling like this was any of his business to be a part of, Iron Kettle nodded to the little pony and headed back into line to finalize the rest of his order, all the while keeping a close ear on what might transpire.

"Hello there," Mrs. Cake smiled warmly at me as she said this. "I haven't seen you before, have I?"
"Um....I don't think so," I said nervously, too so to disguise my voice. It was only after the words came out that I realized my mistake.
"Hang on..." She said, eyes narrowing. "Your voice....it's familiar..."

For five long seconds, she stared into my eyes, while I contemplated ways to escape. The windows were for a worst case scenario, but hopefully it wouldn't come to t-

"Cupcake Dream!" She interrupted angrily, eyes narrowing. "Would you like to explain what you're doing in my establishment?"

"Well...um...you see...I....uh..." I stuttered, but I couldn't handle the pressure. Confused and dazed, I fainted on the floor.
