Cool air ran over Golden's wings and body. The whisper of wind flowed past his ears. The warmth of Celestia's rising sun fell on his mane. In the distance were a few large clouds. The floated silently, as if waiting for something that might never come. Golden flapped his wings gently, gaining altitude, before banking and slowly drifted around the clouds. He inspected the clouds, looking for something. He drifted lower. Flying beneath the clouds, still searching. He came out from under them and pulled up. Giving his wings a great flap, he arced into a wide loop. As he flew over the clouds he still searched, scanning the clouds for something unseen. He pulled in his right wing, flattening it against his body, and closed his eyes. Golden felt how his whole world span. As he cork-screwed through the air. Opening his eyes and unfurling his wing, he straightened out, leveling him-self with the yellow horizon, created by the rising sun.
Golden sighed.
The sigh was a mix of frustration, depression and loneliness. He wished he could bring one of his friends with him to see what he was going to do, or at least try. He wished he could bring Airy, but he couldn't fly due to his accident. Golden made a mental note to give him a ride on a cloud at some stage. He wished Shadow was here, but their relationship was on a friendly basis. Taking her to watch a sunrise would be questionable at best. Quill would have beaten him with his hoof's if he had woken him up before sunrise. Snow, was unfortunately a unicorn and there was no way that she would sit on the ground for longer that five minuets waiting for something that might not work. Golden Bolt smiled, maybe he could do something with snow for her at some stage.
Golden chuckled, maybe it wasn't so bad that no-pony was here to watch. It was after an attempt to create something extraordinary. He remembered the last time he tried this in his apartment. The stain was still in the carpet.
Golden banked again. This time drifting to the gathering of clouds. He landed with a soft 'poof'. The sun had now gotten just above half-way over the horizon. Long shadows coated the land, as if Princess Luna had painted the night sky on Equestria with a thin paint brush.
Golden reached into his worn saddle bags, inside were small glass bottles. He pulled one out. Inside was a thick liquid. As it sloshed against the glass, it left a coat of colour against it, before running off the glass again. On the label, written in stylized calligraphy, was 'Green dye.' The contents of the bottle shone a dark green. Golden gently layed the bottle down on the cloud, closed his saddle bag then proceed to open the bottle at his feet. He tipped the bottle over, letting the green dye penetrate the cloud. Once the bottle was emptied he place the cork back in the bottle and placed it in his bag.
Now for the fun part.
Thought Golden. He flapped his wings, and flew over and glided next to the cloud with the dye inside. He grabbed it with his hoofs. Picked it up over his head and started shaking the cloud. The dye inside started sloshing inside the cloud, but as Golden shook, the sloshing lessened and lessened, until Golden couldn't hear anything when he shook the cloud. Slowly Golden let the cloud go. He held his breath.
The last time he did this the cloud burst open, spraying dye everywhere. In hindsight, it was probably not the best idea to do it in his apartment.
Golden looked up, the clouds usual grey colour was now a bright lime green. The sun's rays bouncing off the clouds droplets, creating a cascading green light to the ground. Golden started laughing. It wasn't his normal laugh though. It sounded more like a laugh of pony whose just discovered something. A certain unicorn popped into his head, black and white flames dancing around his glasses. After a while, Golden calmed down, he was hovering under the cloud only seeing the cloud from underneath. Golden flapped his wings harder and flew out from under the cloud. He circled the cloud a few times, making sure the whole cloud was in fact green.
Slowly he began hovering closer to the cloud. A nervous hoof reached out to the cloud. Prodding it. It still felt the same. Golden pushed his hoof against the cloud. It still behaved much the same way as a normal cloud. Gently Golden landed on top of the cloud. Surprisingly it smelt of wet leaves and grass. Golden layed down on the cloud. The sun was now well over the horizon. Golden checked his bag, he still had blue, red and yellow. And many experiments to do. Painting the cloud was the first step in achieving a dream.
