| Moon Whistle hummed under her breath as she did the last check-up on her basket. There was everything she needed for tonight; a comfy blanket, clay bottle of hot chocolate - material of clay kept things warm, since Moon Whistle did not know any spells to keep things warm herself - and small amount of dried apple chips for a late night snack.
She lifted up the basket with her magic and headed out, also magically grabbing her telescope, which was safe and sound inside its own case. This would be an interesting night for this little astronomer, even if it was going to be an everypony-occasion. The truth to be told, Moon Whistle preferred solitude, when observing the night sky, but she was not a pony to tell others to keep away.
Soon she arrived to the edge of the Whitetail Wood, finding a nice clearing to have a look at the skies. The night was kind of cool already and Moon Whistle wished she had remembered her favourite woollen scarf. She looked up and smiled, it seemed that the night was going to be clear enough for observing.

| A dreary looking Spring Shower kicked another cloud out of the sky. She hated getting stuck on late night cloud duty for these special events. She didn't care about the meteor shower, she had a nice bed at home waiting for her. Admittedly if she had known she was going to be on night duty tonight she wouldnt have been up at the break of dawn this morning... It's not her fault that cloud got loose and caused a mid-day shower in the middle of the marketplace... Okay... so it was her fault... but that's beside the point.
A sleepy Spring Shower flew a little haphazardly through the night sky to the next cloud. She poked it and then kicked it away. She let out a big yawn before flying over to another cloud. She tried to grab the cloud but was inadvertently flying away of it, causing her to reach forward to get ahold of the cloud. The second her face touched the cloud she pulled it close to her and curled up on it, smiling happily.
With the little push Spring Shower gave it, the cloud began to lowly drift through the sky, uncaring of whose view of the meteor shower it may block.

| She was already setting up a comfy place to gaze at the sky. The blanket was set nicely on the grass, and now Moon Whistle was concentrating on fixing up her telescope for tonight. She looked trough it and wondered if the eyeglass was smudged... Since there was some difficulties to see the sky clearly.
Astronomer gave an annoyed sigh and, with her magic, lifted a piece of cloth to clean the lenses of her telescope. Then she looked trough the telescope again, but no, the sky was still unclear. "What the hay?" Moon Whistle mumbled to herself and tried to adjust the settings of the telescope for a while. But then she actually looked at the sky - which was not clear anymore.
"No!" she shouted, her eyes wide in shock. "What's this? The sky was supposed to be clear tonight..." She trotted away from her stuff to take a better look at the cloud covering the sky. The meteor shower should be starting soon and therefore Moon Whistle wanted to get rid of the thick cloud as soon as possible.
But as she was not experienced with the weatherlore, she had no other choise than to try and grab the cloud with her magic. She attempted at it, but failed at the first time. "Well, here goes nothing..." she muttered as she tried to get another magical grab on it.

| The cloud Spring Shower had began to take a nap on began to shake violently as magic began to move it around. "Huh? Hey!" Spring said in a sleepy tone as she started flying above the cloud again. Spring looked down a bit hazily at the dark blue unicorn who had began moving her temporary bed and quickly kicked the cloud into nothingness.
"I was, uh, taking an Equestria mandated break period while cleaning up the sky..." Spring Shower said groggily, it was obvious to anyone watching that the Pegasus was clearly sleep deprived and was not as happy to be out tonight as Moon was.
Spring Shower flew slowly down towards where Moon was and landed a bit cautiously on the ground, "Sorry about the cloud... I got stuck on night clean up and kinda got up early this morning to enjoy the morning sun..." Spring said, rubbing her eyes with her hoof, "has the, uh, meteor thingy started yet?" she asked, following up with another yawn.

| Moon Whistle raised an eyebrow at the Pegasus, who had landed in front of her. Then she rolled her eyes a bit, as it seemed the weather patrol was running its workers at the edge of sleep deprivation, or something.
"No." she replied to the light-coloured Pegasus, "Not yet, but soon. And it's not a 'thingy', it's a shower. Night of the shooting stars if you need another name for it." At this point, Moon Whistle's voice might've sounded a tad annoying. It usually was, when she was getting preachy about the subjects she loved and lived for.
"The sky was in perfect condition for stargazing, until..." she pointed at the cloud, which the pegasus had been napping on, "...THAT appeared." The look on Moon Whistle's face was somewhat disappointed. She just wanted the cloud to disappear, because decent meteor showers did not appear too often.

| Spring looked back up in surprise. The cloud which she thought she had finished off was still half floating about. She frowned and flew back up to the cloud, giving it one swift kick breaking it apart and watching as it faded into nothing. She gave a deep sigh and fluttered back down to Moon Whistle.
"That should be the last one, too..." Spring said, fighting another yawn. "I'm meteor shower..." she said holding out her hoof, but as her yawn escaped her, she held her hoof to her mouth until it was finished, "I mean Spring Shower. My name is Spring Shower." she corrected.
She looked up to the sky and raised an eyebrow, "So what happens during these meteor showers? just a bunch of lights going across the sky?" she asked, "you must forgive me, I'm not much of a night pony-- most of my enjoyment comes under the sun..." She said with a weak but polite smile.

| Being more of a nocturnal kind of a pony, Moon Whistle almost dropped her jaw, when she understood, that the other one - Spring Shower - did not know about shooting stars. She moved her feet a little, then explained: "Eh, meteor showers are pieces of small rocks from the, um, space." Now that she was getting on a more familiar ground, she continued: "So therefore the term of shooting stars is kind of a wrong. But it's beautiful anyway. The light comes from the rocks burning when they fall. Most of them drop in the sea, though, so watching is safe."
She was getting almost too much carried away, as she liked to explain things happening in the skies and space. At this time, Moon Whistle was forgetting everything else - such as introducing herself. So, she just continued about the happenings of the sky: "And it is so nice that there is a new moon, too. Full moon would just disturb with its light, to be honest. And here is just a perfect place to watch the whole shower and it seems, that nopony else is interested, at least I have not seen anyone and ..."

| "I see" Spring Shower said, continuing to look upwards, curious if she'll see any of these burning rocks, "Would you mind if I hung around for a little bit and watched the meteor shower with you? as long as I'm out here that is."
Spring Shower set on the grass next to Moon's setup, yawning lightly and continuing to look up, "I usually just do weather work during the day," Spring explained, "Night work is usually just a,--" Spring hesitated before admitting she was being punished, "an extra shift that usually isn't done that much-- I usually clean up the clouds in the morning-- just with this meteor shower the higher ups wanted the sky clear," She explained, motioning towards Cloudsdale with her hoof.
"During the day its easy to spot clouds," she told Moon, "at night-- especially with no moon-- its really hard to find them all..." she admitted.

| Moon Whistle was somewhat taken aback, when Spring Shower asked if she could spend the some time with her. Moon Whistle was accustomed to her loneliness - at least she did not know many other ponies interested in same things as she. Frankly, she found it a tad rude to push oneself to other ponies business, but then again, there seemed not to be other interested ponies around tonight. So, Moon Whistle gave a tiny shrug and let the other pony stay.
"Sounds interesting." she said to Spring Shower as the Pegasus told about clearing the skies. "My job consists of studying the sky and phenomenons around it. Lunar eclipses, solar eclipses, comets, stuff like that." The Unicorn returned to her telescope and adjusted it to its full sharpness. Every now and then she took some thoughtful glances to the sky and then sat to the blanket. "Now we need to wait a little, it should start soon."

| Spring Shower drifted in and out of consciousness as Moon continued to watch the sky. Star gazing was not Spring's idea of a good time-- neither was being awake so late into the night. When the sun went down she went home, when the sun came up she was out of her house. This was not her. Hopefully she didnt upset the unicorn with her attitude-- her sleep deprived state was a little grouchy.
She slowly opened her eyes and through the fuzzyness that was her vision saw some streaks in the sky. Her eyes shot open as she hopped to her hooves. "Holy cow, look, its the meteors!" he proclaimed as she began flying a little bit over the ground.

| "I see! I see!" Moon Whistle exclaimed as the meteors started to shower down the dark night sky with light streaks. Her eyes shined, as she gave out a happy squal and she rushed to the telescope to get a better view.
Even if she did not know Spring Shower too well, she decided she should tell a little more about the falling "stars" that were actually meteors. "They say that one can wish upon a falling star - although I don't understand how a burning piece of space rock can function with wishes." Moon Whistle moved the telescope a little bit and then gave a deep, appreciating sigh at the sight she saw. This year's meteor shower seemed plentiful - usually she had witnessed about ten within an hour and now the sky was filled with the shower.
