Night Pegasi

This thread is for discussion of Night Pegasi. They have the bat wings, and could possibly have cloven hooves, but they serve Luna and NightMare Moon in the series.

It be difficult to RP them. You have to be a guard, but never able to say you been in contact with the Princess.

I mean I suppose you could say you stand by her and she never directly spoke to you. It's just most of your time would be spent guarding a castle and they could only live in Canterlot.

There would a almost unpleasant amount of restrictions to be forced on the character if you were allowed to make one.

Also if one were to make this character he/she would need to be quite interesting or the wings and them being a guard would sort of personify the character. It have the task of fighting not being some sort of background pony in a way.

I'd feel one thing would really keep this from working. We like to stick to the canon as much as possible, and I don't think we know enough about them to effectively role play them. But thats just my two cents. The biggest problem is whether or not the night pegasi are just a normal race whose members are recruited by Luna, or only exist within the ranks of Luna's guard.

There's a couple things I'm making some logical assumptions from. In the first two episodes, you meet Princess Celestia and her little sister Princess Luna. Now, Luna got jealous, and was imprisoned in/on the Moon for a thousand years. She has these bat-winged pegasi for her guards. The logic I am using, is that if she was imprisoned there, then it must be habitable. If it is habitable, then it would (using ponyverse biological/astrophysics) logically have its own pony population. Most likely, there would be Moon Ponies (analog to earth ponies), Moon Unicorns (analog to unicorns in Equestria) and Night Pegasi (analog to day-pegasi). Now, for obvious reasons, the moon ponies and the moon unicorns aren't going to be flying down to Equestria. But the Night Pegasi would be able to, just most of them don't *want* to go exploring in such dazzlingly brightly lit places. But a curious Night Pegasus could possibly go exploring Day Pony lands to learn about their Equestrian kin, perhaps distantly related (millennia ago, all ponies were Equestrian, and some migrated to the moon at one point) and they diverged, like the Zebra ponies are from other lands, but they're still ponies.
Now, since Night-Pegasi can fly, they could easily enough travel back and forth, but the bright light is far more than they're used to, so they generally don't unless their princess, Princess Luna, asks them to. It's not that they can not, it's that they do not wish to because it is so bright. So now that Luna is welcome in Equestria again, perhaps a few, very bold, very adventurous Night Pegasi might come visiting. Not as guards, but as students and explorers who want to learn about day ponies, and let day ponies learn about them. Even in the canon cartoon, day-ponies of all types get scared by ponies who are different, so it is possible that this could be done. But this thread is all for speculation and discussion too.

I don't remember the night pegasi being with her while she was Nightmare Moon. I only remember them with her while she was Luna. Now, U haven't watched those episodes in quite a long time, so I may be mistaken. But if I am right, then bringing down her subjects does not work. Also, the moon was meant to be a place of banishment and punishment, a desolate wasteland. I'm just afraid you are taking too many assumptions. I also believe it was more magic than flight that allowed Nightmare Moon to return. It could be entirely possible that the night pegasi were always on the ground, but remained in hiding until their princess returned.

So either the night guard did there job guarding the place at night as seen in the episode where twilight meets her future self even with Luna being there or two if you are sworn directly under Luna you gain bat wings for being in her service.

The problem with playing fast and loose with canon is the the series is still going. We could come up with an idea, go with it, then two episodes later, BAM!, we were wrong. This is why I am a little iffy with the night pegasi.
