I'm Beside Myself with Worry

Three ponies and a griffon awake in an underground jail cell. They are not who they were.

By some freak magic accident, they have kept their own personalities, memories and (oddly enough) voices, but have switched bodies with each other.

Together, they must find out what happened and how to fix it.

They have no idea about the journey they are about to go on...

Important note:
Unlike normal RP's on the site, this RP has a story arc to follow, so I (Fireseeker) will be helping guide play as the dungeon master (DM). This means I will sometimes post as the environment or NPC's, doing so outside of the regular order of posts. However, these do not count as my character posts.
For example, if your character is searching a room for clues, I may post immediately afterwards saying that you an object, or if your character goes to read a sign, I will post saying what is written on the sign.
DM posts will be marked with a (DM) and will be entirely in bold.

The first thing Rose noticed as she awoke from her deep sleep was the dank scented air that hung around her. Opening her eyes a crack, she spotted herself in the mirror. Then, very slowly, her eyes widened, as did her shock.

Her reflection was still sleeping silently on the stone ground. She wasn't looking into a mirror. Rose shot to her hooves and saw that they were dark green with a lighter green tip. She, as in her body, was still sleeping beside her.

Then she looked around and realised she was in some kind of underground jewel cave, but the single barred door to the side made it clear she was in some kind of dungeon or jail.
She next realised that she wasn't alone; as well as her own body in the room, there was another pony and a griffon.

All of Rose's confusion, shock and fear grew rapidly until she couldn't control herself.
She let out a piercing scream.

Jim was in a field. The sun was glowing in the sky with the warmth of a mirger's smile. The air was in a gentle breeze, with his mane feeling like it was flowing like waterLovely place- he could do what he wanted here. His Friends were nice and all, but a colt needs a break sometimes. He inhaled the sweet scent of......
Damp?
Jim opened his eyes and groaned. Every night, he falls for that one. It was brilliant while it lasted but wasn't much fun when he woke up and realised he wasn't actually there. He reached to his left for his clock, when he felt something soft. He turned his head and felt.... Feathers? He turned his head and saw a griffon lying next to him. Jim jumped up; he did not expect that. He took a few breaths and noticed another pony in the room, which appeared to be awake. He checked his surroundings, and realised he must be in prison. He groaned. Why was he here? He didn't drink much, so he should remember. He defenitely remembered going to bed last night.

As he looked around, he saw a mirror. He looked into it, and saw another pony not the one he had already noticed. Jim turned, and saw no one. He looked back, and saw the other pony doing the same thing. Jim looked at his chest, and noticed his coat was now a deep purple. He felt his mane, and noted that it was in neat cut, rather than his usual long, wild style. He noticed one more pony on the floor.
Himself.
"What the hay?!" Jim cried out. "Why am I on the floor, but here as well? And why do I look like somepony else?!"

Willow was having a rather lovely dream about a certin stallion he knew when all a sudden he was woken by a rather loud scream,shoot up Willow looked around blinking at a strange sight staring back at him was....him! "I must be dreaming still..."

Rozen woke up, stretching his arms and yawned. Something seemed off, but he couldn't place it. He shrugged it off before. He looked around. "This isn't my room..." He though "What did I do last night?" He then looked down. He wasn't a griffon, he was a pony. He saw other ponies, including his grey griffon body.

"What is going on?" He asked, patting himself down, "I'm...I'm..hot!" He said lifting up his mane and letting it fall.

Rose watched the other ponies wake up. They seemed just as confused as her. She had a closer inspection of her new body. Her mane was now shorter, spiky and a light blue. Her body was a dark green and she had a pair of pegasus wings. Her new cutie mark appeared to be a medic's cross.

A strong blush rose to her cheeks when the pony in her body spoke about her body. Not that she didn't think she looked good, but somepony else saying it so bluntly was a little embarrassing.

"H-hey! That's my body pal," Rose said, trotting over to him. "How did you even get into it? Actually, you know what? I don't care about that. Just give it back now!" She looked at herself again, her wings ruffling a little as she did. "I don't want to be stuck in this body..."

Jim saw the other ponies and the giffon wake up. They all seemed about as confused as Jim was. He cleared his mind for a second, and thought for a moment. He looked at the other ponies, and started calculating what was happening. Firstly, he was in another pony's body. Secondly, he was in another pony's body. Thirdly, HE WAS IN ANOTHER PONY'S DARNED BODY! 'Okay, calm down.' He thought. 'They look as confused as they are. Open up; they might know something. He opened his mouth to speak;

"Okay. We need to think logically. I have a suspicion it was one of you, but it would be unfair to think that way. So I'm gonna give you all the benefit of the doubt."

However, he started to feel one of his personalities surface. This was the angry and aggressive one. They were all laughing at him! This was a prank! They were just like the ones at school! He ought to smash his hoof into their stupid, laughing mouths just like at school! He felt the rage building, and had to let it out.

"Right, what have you lot done? I went to bed as usual yesterday, so I'm gonna guess one of you changed me then dragged me here! Now spill it- who the hay was it?!"

Willow looked down at himself seeing that that he indeed was in somepony elses body, well some griffins to be correct,looking himself over he notices one thing that stood out the most for him...This grifons wings. Turning back to the ponies in the room he turns to the pony in his body at his sudden outbrust "Sir take it easy we all want our bodies back just as much as you, we all just need to keep a cool head and try to find away out of here." Willow said as calmly as he could.

Roze was instantly assaulted by an angry looking pegasus. "Look sir, or ma'am, I guess. I don't know what happened. If I could give you your body back, I would, but I can't." He said defensively, feeling much weaker in the pony body. It was already akward being a pony and not a griffon, let alone a girl pony.

"Now I think we have to take this rationally. We need to sit, and talk, and try to figure out what is going on. Screaming won't get us anywhere." He said, and flipped his mane back. He always wanted to be able to do that.

If life was a cartoon, you would be able to see steam shooting from Rose's ears. She scowled furiously at the pony in her body. However, she started to see sense in their words. Screaming at each other wouldn't help. She sighed heavily and gave a slight nod, looking away from the pony in her body.

"Yes, you're right," she said quietly, suddenly realising she was in a stallion's body. This was...awkward. Rose looked over to the other two ponies, then back to the pony in her body "I guess we should find out who we all our. My name's Rosette. Just call me Rose."

Jim took a deep breath, and calmed himself.
"Sorry about that. I have this thing were I can get a bit mad at times. Sorry if I scared you."
He felt a bit ashamed. They weren't yelling at him; they weren't laughing at him either. They were just wanting to fix it too. He may be a trainee doctor, but he had mockup what caused those mood swings of his.
"Again, sorry. I'm a doctor, so if any of you are hurt or anything just tell me. My names medic Jim. Just call me Jim."

Willow smiled "Thats alright Jim" Willow looked at the others "My name is Willow Wisp but you can call me Willow if you like it's very nice to meet you all" He says with an even wider smile

Rozencratz took his turn to introduce himself. "and my name is Rozencratz, or Rozen, or Roze. Whatever you want to call me." Rozencratz found it funny that he went from Roze to Rose, but he decided to keep it to himself. The tension in the room was thick. He did not believe a joke would help things much.

"Ok, let us try to recreate events. What were you all doing last night?"

Quite frankly, Rose didn't see how what she did last night would help, but she decided to co-operate with Rozencratz's question.

"Well, I booked a hotel, stayed in my room, rang for...room service, and slept," she summed up quickly. She stepped over to a cave wall and poked at it with a hoof. "And now I'm stuck in some kind of lousy jail cell, Celestia only knows where..."

From beyond the barred cell door, the sound of scratching steps and high pitched mumbles echoed through the caves.

"Well, I went home as usual. Had dinner, looked over the medical records as usual, had a cup of tea then went to bed. Everything seemed fine to me. I didn't have anything unusual happen to me during the day either- just a normal day at the clinic."

Jim heard a sound. Straining his ears, he could hear hoof steps and muttering. Naturally, he had several possibilities laid out- whatever it was it didn't sound friendly. He could go full out- wait for it to open the door, as it inevitably would, and lamp it then. He could wait and see what it did- mabye it was friendly. There wasn't a weapon in the room anyway- he just had his hooves. Then again, it was three ponies and a griffon vs one creature which, by the sound of its mumbling, was probably rather small. They'd beat it to a pulp if it came in. But would it come in? It might just taunt them from outside the door. He resolved to ask the others.

"Can you hear that? It doesn't sound too friendly. Anypony got an idea of what to do if it attacks us? Or should we reason with it?"

Willow blinked at the question "Why if I can remember correctly I was mostly closing up my cafe then I went home for the night...but I don’t ever remember going to bed..." He said the last part slowly as he tried to remember anything after that but it seemed to a blur "I can’t seem to remember anything after that....strange..." Willow nodded to Jim "Well whatever it is I’m sure we can out number it if we need to"

Rozencratz began to talk when he heard the noise coming towards them. He immediately jumped to attention, ready to fight if necessary. He cursed this new body, missing his larger, stronger, griffon body. "I can't tell what that noise is. Everypony stay alert."

Rose gulped as she backed away from the source of the noise. The echoing from the corridor grew louder and louder, then stopped suddenly. After a second of silence she gave a sigh of relief.

"I guess whatever it is, it's decid- ARGH!"

A large, brown diamond dog leapt in front of the jail door, scaring Rose. From the other side of the bars, he raises a large set of keys and grins wickedly, displaying a large set of canines.

"Bad ponies will stay locked up for long time. Hehe."

Jim recoiled when the Dog spoke- it voice was very low and guttural, the sort of voice Jim hated. Still, it was just a diamond dog. They could take it.
"Okay. Diamond dogs. Didn't see that coming- thought they would have learned their lesson. RIGHT YOU! GET IN HERE AND FIGHT LIKE A STALLION!" He yelled out of the door.
He didn't really think it would scare the dog all that much but he wasn't going down complacent. He couldn't stand that.

Willow blinked at the dimond dog and what he had said "What do you mean bad ponies....have we done something wrong?" He asks as he stares at the keys,their only way out it seems.

Rozencratz began to quickly examine the situation. The dog was large and feral looking. He also had keys clutched in his paws. He needed a plan. "Oh how I wish I had my body back." He thought, as his cold gaz met the dog's.

The diamond dog laughed cruelly at Jim's outburst. Then he turned to Willow with a toothy grin.

"Bad ponies know what they did. Bad ponies need be locked away," he said, hitting his key clutching paw against the cell door, the clang and echo of metal against metal ringing out loudly.

Licking his lips, he looked over each pony. "Bad ponies will make good dinner," he then looked at Willow's new griffon body, "And tasty chicken too."

Laughing again, the diamond dog turned around to leave, throwing the keys onto a large boulder in the corridor outside the jail cell.


Having kept her eyes on them the whole time, Rose darted straight over to the cell door the moment their capturer was out of sight. She stuck a hoof between the bars and attempted to reach the keys but it was no use. She could barely reach over halfway.

"Ponyfeathers," she muttered, "Now what?"

Jim was starting to get rather worried looks from the othes- he decided to calm himself down, and be a bit nicer. They'd think he was a nutter if he kept it up. He cooked his mind and thought about his friends, his family, his favourite foods.....he let it all drift by, and felt much calmer and serene. He started thinking logically- the key was there as a taunt. Jim had an idea.

Hey, Roze, you're a griffon. You have longer legs- could you reach those keys?

Willow blinks and looks down at the bodies talons and walks to the bar trying to reach the keys but is a few inches short "Gah! still to far!' He says angrily.

Rozencrats thinked. "Well we can't reach the keys. Hmmm, if only we had a stick, or a spear." He said out loud, beginning to pace back and forth. "We need a miracle to get those keys!" He said, hitting his head against the wall in exasperation, and making a knick in the wall with his horn.
