Calla heard the mares who were boarding upstairs, Amina and Rosella, chatting excitedly over something. She groaned and went back to reading, but the noise was too much. She shut her book with a snap and trudged into the garden, hoping to find some peace.
Alas, living in the center of town also had it's disadvantages. Everypony was up and about on such a fine day as this, and the sound of laughter and idle chat filled the spring air.
Calla opened the book again, intent on finishing, but there, taped to page number 372, was a note. She opened it with careful hooves, and what she saw inside made her forget all about the noise. She tried to remember where the book had come from, how long she'd had it, and the like, but she was just to excited.
She ran to the fence next door and yelled.
"Iris! Come quickly!!"
