The feast had begun. This was the tributes' last meal in the Capitol. Head Gamekeeper Calla Lily was in the back of the room, watching the tributes intently. She would have to make this one good... Or else, something bad might happen to her. An accident. Poison in a wine cup. A trip off a balcony.
Behind her, somepony cleared her throat. Calla turned to see the former Head Gamekeeper, Amina, sipping her own glass of champagne.
"Having trouble with ze new group?" she asked.
"I am, actually. The arena has already been chosen, but these ponies are already ready to murder each other. I want the games to last, but with the desert and the murderous Equestrians, I don't know how it'll make it past a week."
Amina laughed.
"Calla, my games lasted zree days. Ze bloodiest battle in Equestrian history. Don't worry."
She trotted off into the crowd, slightly drunk.
Calla sighed and leaned against the wall. The only others to talk to would be the tributes, and she couldn't say anything without spoiling the games and ruining it all. What could she do?
