| The castle's grand and ruined entrance loomed above Inty Average and Aero Dynamic. "How ominous." Ave said, his voice unclear if it was honest or sarcastic. nontheless, he headed inside, the wave of cold air having little effect on him, his three hooves carefully stepping on the worn and wet stone. The castle looked horrid and in complete disarray inside, aging and deteriorated from the elements of nature. An ominous howling wind rung in their ears as it was already getting dark, air blowing aggressively against the sides of the eroded castle...
"Atleast it ain't insect season no more. Spider and the like shouldn't be too active." he said, looking at much of the moss that had grown inbetween and ontop of rocks. "alright. i have not a clue in the slightest where the library is." he said with a sigh, looking at the equal amounts of large passages on both sides of the entrance hall. he wasn't sure where to start searching and what the two might encounter during their searches.

| Aero had to agree with Ave; it wasn't exactly the most inviting of places. Yet, it was simultaneously attractive for that very reason. It was unkept, abandoned for centuries with only a few visitors over the years. The possibilities of what could be hidden away was too inviting.
He looked over the routes they could take, each winding corridor or stairwell seemed to lead away in a different direction. What with Ave's injured hoof, Aero wanted to suggest that the earth pony stay put whilst he searched for the library to lead him to it. However, the idea of splitting up didn't appeal to him. He was confident he could navigate his way back but the safety of being alone was a bigger concern.
"Eeny, meeny, miny, moe," Aero muttered dryly, moving towards the closest passage. "May as well work our way down, unless you have a better idea."

| Ave nodded. it didn't really matter on which one they started, aslong as they got a move one. He followed Aero to the closest passage. "not that i expect anything really dangerous to be around here..." he mentioned. It's not like this place was some kind of villain's castle (yet). Ave moved down the passage Aero pointed in. it was rather dark, but it was dry at the start. Ave reached up to a torch on the side... to no avail, as he was short as all heck. he grunted a bit. "could uh. You grab a torch?" he asked, secretly hoping that Aero wasn't looking his way, kinda glad his tone was flat right now, cause Aero couldn't hear the irritation. | |

| Like Ave, he had noticed how the beginnings of nighttime were starting to set in. He didn't fancy roaming the dark passages of the ancient castle practically blind.
Aero couldn't help but smirk a little in amusement as he saw Ave reach for a torch on the wall only to find it out of his grasp. He reached up and plucked the torch from it's position before digging into his saddlebags. Buried deep was a flint and steel kit, a gift from an earth pony friend he'd met out in Appleloosa. Combined with the flammable remains left on the torch, Aero eventually managed to light the torch.
The burning light illuminated the cold stone of their surroundings in a warm amber. Held in a front hoof, Aero trotted on the other three as he observed the castle around him. The library had to be here somewhere. But even if the library was here...
"What makes you think you'll find what you're looking for here?"

| Ave blinked at the question and went in deep thought. "To be honest..? not much. but i can't just wuss out because the odds are slim. Many chances are missed that way." He said, and he'd sound very sagely if he'd use a little more emotion to it. Despite hearing it for a short while now, it was still hard to completely adapt to someone being completely without shown emotions. it was alienating, at best.
The whole place seemed more... macabre than dangerous. in their idle trotting, the two would encounter a long hall with hooves holding torches from the side. arguably... disembodied hooves. Even the bravest of earth ponies and pegasi would stand creeped from a sight like this. It didn't seem like Ave was creeped though. He simply walked on, despite the incredibly creepy nature of the place, face still as flat as ever. As he passed Aero for a moment, he smiled to him. "Creeped?" he tauntingly asked, knowing that would likely inspire Aero to 'Stallion Up' a little. To be fair, Ave was also creeped out of his coat, but his lack of expression also made it easier for him to surpress fear and emulate bravery.

| Ave's answer shouldn't have been surprising. There was no guarantee of what he was looking for would be here. Regardless, just as Aero had thought earlier, it was a good idea. There could be secrets held in this castle to answer many questions. Ave seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. However, Aero had met ponies who spoke with a naturally flat tone but the almost complete lack of any emotion at all times was a little strange. Aero would never be able to claim himself to truly act stone-faced ever again, not in comparison to Ave at least.
His flaming torch pierced the darkness as they continued their exploration. The castle had an unnerving presence about it. The dark, shadowy corners. The ancient and questionable decor. The ruined tapestries clinging to the cracked stonework walls. Aero had seen strange and scary before but he couldn't help but be unsettled by the place. If anything, it was the worry of unknown danger that kept him on edge that was the cause of the uneasy expression on his face.
"Not so much," he replied, giving a long hard look at an rusty helmet that hung menacingly on the wall. "More cautious."
As if on cue, Aero's hoof landed on a floor tile that pressed down like a pressure pad. His head spun around at the sound of working gears to see a large stone slab descend from the ceiling to block off their way back down the passage they had just walked down. Even with his speed, there would have been nothing he could do had he tried to reach it in time. Aero simply stood ridged as the door slammed against the ground with an ominous crunch.
"And that would be why."

| Ave looked upon the closed passage, blinking. he thought it over. he was panicking, internally, but his calm expression didn't let anyone know that. there wasn't a direct solution in the surroundings, and noticing that Aero wasn't panicking, it helped that ave 'wasn't' either, Ave managed to calm himself down. "I'd say that's a worrisome issue, yes." he looked around and looked at the pressure pad. Darn, there ain't the slightest hint of a solution around here. he thought to himself.
"I suppose we'll just have to tough it out and continue on. it doesn't seem there's a solution here." he said, his tone having a somewhat welcoming calm to it. Ave however, wasn't really aware of this 'Keeping others calm by seeming calm and calming himself and therefore being able to face unusual odds' ability he had. For now he was more focused on finding a way to a library, and then finding a way out of here. he nonchalantly turned around and continued onward toward the direction they were walking anyways.

| With their way back cut off, the only option was to continue onwards. Aero was glad that Ave had the forethought to suggest taking a torch with them. While the moonlight was bright tonight, they would have been left practically blind had they not been carrying the light.
"I don't think this place would be built as a labyrinth, so I'm sure there's a way out." Aero asserted. He hoped.
Focus Aero, focus. He was annoyed at the fact he'd been caught out by the trap. Worse, it was his fault. Fortunately, it was only a door shutting and not something worse. Like he'd said, he didn't believe the Castle of the Two Sisters would have been built with any dangerous devices included but clearly it had some surprises in store for them. He silently vowed to be extra cautious of his surroundings and more mindful of his steps. He didn't like making mistakes.

| Aero noticed that Ave was looking down and started walking more slowly. He was testing tiles. Eventually, when the two were walking next to each other, Ave carefully tested a tile, but it instantly went down and clicked, even with the slowest approach. The floor started moving, But ave managed to jump away and knock Aero out of the way aswell. A wall turned around, taking some of the floor with it. "Turning walls and secret passages. Hmph. Looks like these pressure pads are -very- precisely engineered. you can't avoid pressing them in unless you notice them beforehand, which is nigh impossible." Ave said. He was irritated. These were perfect traps, and their only defense was their reaction speed.
"We should probably stay close to one another. If a trap springs, we'll at the very least be in it together then, so we can figure a way out." Ave mentioned, looking at the wall which turned around. "This may very well be in a labyrinth formation. Prepare for a long time of dawdling." he told Aero, as the two continued, sticking together closely. It was no use checking the ground for pressure pads, as they were very light and basically touching them already triggered them. You'd have to fly around to make sure you don't trigger anything, and even then, you'd have to never land. Impossible solutions aside, the two eventually came at an impasse of 3 possible routes to go towards...

| Aero couldn't help with Ave as the earth pony marvelled at the engineering of the castle. It was impressive that such a structure could have been built so long ago. However, it was incredibly frustrating that with so little time gone by they had already activated two devices to impede them.
"I bet there used to be more than two sisters but the others got lost in here," he muttered to himself bitterly.
He was disliking these twisting turns and surprise passages that popped out of nowhere. It was his hope that they would either find the library quickly or that they would discover a map or some sort of help in navigating the castle.
Predictably, that didn't pan out. It should have been obvious by Murphy's law that they would hit an impasse. Aero looked between all the passages, seeing no noticeable differences amongst all of them, and sighed.
"Do you want choose one this time?"

| Ave thought logically and took a sniff. Only the scent of moss came from here. Typical, nothing useful. still, his train of thought continued. "Yeah, just... i was thinking there might be a logical way to determine the best next step. The smell of dusty old books or something. let's see... as far as i know... we went.." Ave started drawing in the tiles below them in deep thought. he was tracing their steps thusfar. "Right seems like the most logical way to get back to the entrance hall." Ave said.
And indeed he would start walking down that hall, without a doubt in the world. they would go through a lot more twisting halls and traps, but nothing that their quick senses didn't get them out of. It was a long trip, that was for sure, and eventually...
The two arrived in a long hall, the only door on the other side. Between them and that door there was a small patch of lit up ground. there was a howling cold wind passing through here. Parts of the ceiling were broken and parts of the ground were crumbling as well. Plants were thick here, spikes everywhere. there was something colourful amongst it all. As the two slowly entered this narrow hallway, the enroaching plants making it feel even more narrow, the brittle rock making it feel dangerous. They saw the colour as images of stained glass. with the shift of the perspective of moonlight, Aero could suddenly see fearsome beasts left and right of him. Dangerous things that could tear him to shreds in a second. This was no place for an average pony like Ave or Aero, there was something -very- wrong here. Yet... Ave seemed to be walking on, but he noticed Aero slowing down. he slowly turned...

| With the decision made, Aero followed Ave's lead down the chosen passage. At least he'd based his choice out off logic, in hopes to get back to the main hall. It seemed like the best course of action.
Aero's steady trot slowed to a stunted pace as he looked around the next room. He wasn't one to back away from a fight nor did he scare easily. However, the constant tight spaces had already been worrying him. One thing he didn't take into account when entering this castle was the narrow, interior architecture. As they entered the smaller hallway his hooves stepped unevenly across the broken floor. It was made worse by the encroaching vines that snagged at his hooves. Frustrated, he kicked away at one and watched as flew into the face of a growling manticore.
Aero reared back as the monster right in front of his muzzle was stood with its paws raised in attack and sharp canines bared at him. His wings naturally unfurled in response to fly away from the stained-glass beast but they hit the walls in the cramped space of the hall. His head turned to see behind him only to spot a bugbear growling back. Light by the angry orange flame of his torch were a dozen monsters closely surrounding him. In the confused frenzy, Aero dropped to his flank, huddled in the centre of the corridor and breathed heavily.

| Ave blinked, and looked around. He saw what had afflicted aero. Fear overcame himself aswell. He looked to Aero. He was worried for his life, but his face was as flat as ever. And in this flat face, Aero could see... something he knew. Solace. something he understood, something he knew. It pulled him down to earth somewhat. Ave noticed the change in his expression. Ave stood closer to him and gave him the most heartwarming smile. Ave offered him a hoof.
Equally afraid, now was a great time he didn't need to show anything. He could smile. he could inspire Aero to be brave. Even though Ave didn't recognize it himself... his lies could make certain impossibles possible. as Ave would always give a calm face, regardless of despair and fear. Ave helped Aero up and then walked to some of the Ivy which surrounded them, and he bit into a spot without thorns, tugging, pulling some out. Suddenly, one of the beasts that Aero was looking at.. was completely gone. Ave turned his head one last time and gave a calm smile and a nod, attempting to pull Aero back down to reality and see everything around him for what truly was. "C'mon." Said a completely new voice, but coming from Ave all the same, a homely kindness to it though, a slight change in pitch which made Ave sound confident, but kind. a confidence, which Ave hoped was infectious.

| Need to get out. Need to get out. Need to get out.
The confined space was too much for Aero. Surrounded by writhing creatures, the thorns and vines pricked at him from every direction. His eyes looked down at the ground, refusing to give attention to the world around him. His mind has very, very aware of the space he was in so he didn't need a visual reminder.
As he tried to control his breathing, brown hooves entered his view of the floor. Nervously, Aero's glance went up to meet Ave's serene expression. It gave Aero pause as the calm stallion offered him a hoof up. The fact that the earth pony was completely unfazed had a strong affect on his psyche. Hesitantly, the pegasus took the offered hoof and stood up.
Shaking himself off, he watched as Ave calmly removed some vines, immediately dispelling one of the looming creatures. His space had become a little bit less occupied. Encouraged, Aero took one step forward, followed by another. He progressed slowly through the room, keeping his focus on Ave as his calm and collected companion lead the way. Aero's pace quickened as they reached the end of the hallway and entered a thankfully large room.
The pegasus let out a breath he hadn't realised he had been holding as his wings unfurled. It felt good to let the feathers breathe in the space. He gave Ave an appreciative smile.

| Ave nodded and opened the door to the next room. It was another hallway, only this one was a lot more demolished around the bottom. Ave sniffed. His spoke, his voice suddenly back to it's flat normal tone. "You smell that? Dusty.. Stuffy... Wood Probably. We're almost there." Ave walked ahead. this hall was a whole lot less frightening, luckily, and Ave quickly looked down one of the holes to their side.
As Aero walked up, he noticed something down the hole. Books. Books, books & books. All neatly arranged and cobwebs here and there. It was a long fall though. "Think you can uh, Glide us down...?" Ave asked, turning his head to Aero. He imagined it wouldn't be too difficult of a task to just slowly descend into a large open library. It seemed dry down there, too.

| Feeling rather grateful that he was sharing company with the quiet, contented earth pony, Aero felt himself reach a state of near-normality. He was a bit shaken from the experience but he forced the thoughts of doubt aside to focus on the present. He had a friend with him, and he was supposed to be the one looking after Ave.
As they progressed, he too noticed the familiar smells that hinted they were close. When Ave spotted it, Aero felt a sense on accomplishment. It seemed the trip had been worth it. At Ave's question of gliding, Aero couldn't help but smirk. As if you need to ask...
His grey wings extended outwards once more as he prepared himself by judging his strategy of descent. Confident, he hovered above the ground and went over to Ave. His hooves wrapped around the stallions lowered them both into the library below. His vision filled with shelves of books on either side of them, ancient tomes gathering dust that had sat in place for centuries.
Aero touched Ave down on the solid ground before landing himself. A little smile grew on his lips as he took in the sight around him.

| Ave looked around at all the books... it was marvelous. "Alright. I should be fine from here. i'm going to be studying for a long while. Possibly hours. You just keep yourself content via other methods." Ave said, moving himself over the books in a flat tone.
And indeed. Hours would pass by the candle light of Ave researching books at what seemed breakneck speed. he obviously had gotten experienced with reading spellbooks. He blazed through one and then the other, his apt brain remembering more than he needed. He had piles upon piles of books he was trying to read and learn.
Eventually, many hours later, Ave seemed engrossed in a specific book.. however every moment it was open gave Aero an unpleasant vibe... But Ave was so deep in it, he didn't notice. When Aero looked over to see what Ave was reading.. it was darker magic that was listed here. A spell... to remove a cutie mark.. to remove a destiny. That was the spell that had Ave fascinated. This wasn't some kind of truth spell like Aero was expecting. Ave didn't want to relearn how to tell the truth... Ave wanted to forget the one thing he was truly good at. but without Ave's skillset, and once he was a true blank flank... what was in store for him? What of the ways he used it in his advantage to get all the way here?
Not too mention, the effect of dark magic on the casters and the recipients. Ave might be corrupted. He might be able to show his emotions, but he might never be happy again, or never help anyone again. This spell wouldn't fulfill Ave's wishes, it would ruin anything.. But as Ave read further, he seemed deluded, distracted by the promise of being able to be normal in society.

| "Okay."
With that simple reply, Aero allowed Ave to get with his process of study. Aero lit candles scattered throughout the library to bring as much light as possible and even took out some food and drink he'd pack. He split the provisions, sliding over some for Ave, though he wasn't sure if he would even touch it.
Over the next few hours, Aero spent the time in a mixture of rest and reading. He took a nap to recover lost energy, and ensured to eat and drink to keep his strength up. It wasn't long before the contents of library perked his interest. He scanned the shelves, sometimes flying up high to grab books unreachable to Ave, but also looked through the books for himself.
A couple of history books, particularly ones on pegasus history. One particular book had caught his attention; The Great Anthology of Astronomers and Academics on the Night. While the subject matter wasn't his greatest interest, he was keen to know more about it and knew one mare who would very much appreciate the book as a gift. He complied the few books into his saddlebags to take with him.
However, he had a growing concern. All the while he had kept an eye on Ave. The stallion had done little else than read through books at an impressive rate. Yet the subject matter of the books were concerning to say the least. From the covers alone, many appeared to be about powerful or even dark magic. The few times Aero was able to sneak a look at the contents did not ease his mind. The tipping point was when he saw one book list a spell for removing a cutie mark.
The idea made Aero feel sickened. Ave had spoken about his cutie mark and how he desired for a change in the way it affected him and his expression of self. To be honest, Aero had doubts about his own mark, specially about his destiny and what he was to do with his talents. But the idea of just removing it was like getting rid of a part of your soul...
He knew better than to simply state his worries since he figured it likely that Ave would protest, but he wasn't going to stand by idly.
"Found anything useful?" he queried in a hopeful tone.

| At the tone of sound, Ave snapped out of it for a second. He grabbed a nearby object as a bookmark, and he looked to Aero. His eyes were... Open. His face was neutral as ever, but his eyes were further open. It was... not a pleasant sight. "yeah." Ave said in calm tone. he slowly closed the book. It wasn't too large, and it wasn't advanced dark theory or something super ominous. Just an unkind looking spell book. "i think.. this. will do it." The pause and the unwavering determination that hung around Ave was scary.
Aero knew for sure now, Ave had gotten delusional. "I'm going to sleep for a bit." Ave simply said, moving over to a carpet... He didn't even set up a bed or anything, he just placed the book close to himself and stared at it. He almost lay around the book, he was -that- close to it.

| Aero watched silently as Ave seemed to almost ignore his presence as he barely responded to the question. The earth pony seemed to be shrugging him off, leaving a vague answer at best. Frankly, that wasn't good enough.
Lies and half-truths were not Aero's style. He preferred being blunt and honest with ponies. For some, this made him harsh and mean, but it was just how he dealt with matters. To have Ave simply brush him away wasn't going to happen.
"Anything specific?" he insisted, searching for some kind of descriptive answer.
He kept his eyes focused on Ave, peeled for any sign of deception. Granted, he seemed to be rather good at keeping his cards close to his chest but Aero wasn't taking any chances. He was worried for the stallion. If he thought that dark magic was going to help, he was clearly not thinking straight.

| Ave heard Aero's tone. He turned his head to Aero before he lay down. He had understood Aero wanted more of an answer... One that Ave didn't mind giving. "Something that'll... remove this... 'Cruelty Mark'." he said, his flat voice belying huge irritation, as he mentioned a unique name for his cutie mark.
There was something welling inside him. Rage, Anger. If Ave was a unicorn, he'd be casting this spell right now, fueled by his anger and fear for his 'true destiny'. It didn't show though, making this all quite difficult on Aero, Aero could only assume Ave's mood from the words Ave said. Ave stared back at Aero, eyes empty and devoid of any emotion. color=#392D21]"With this spell... i won't have to follow a Tartarus-danmed destiny, and i can just be... Myself. "[/color] He said directly to Aero. It was obvious that whatever had happened to Ave had damaged Ave's perspective on the world, on destiny as a whole.

| Aero stiffened at the mention of a 'cruelty mark.' Did he mean his cutie mark? Seeing the two drama masks in full, Aero contemplated what was really on Ave's mind. His usual flat voice made it difficult to discern entirely what he was meaning but his choice in language gave him a relatively good idea. He recalled the conversation they'd had earlier in the Everfree to tie the lines of thought together.
Ave wasn't happy. At least, he wasn't with how he couldn't express himself. Clearly his mark tied into that, so by extension he wasn't happy with his cutie mark and his destiny tied to it. So without it he hoped to have a different life.
"You aim to completely get rid of your cutie mark?" Aero questioned, somewhat scandalised by the thought.

| Ave had a short pause before continuing. Aero didn't like it. He could tell, Aero was quite blunt and forward and showed his emotions. Ave was envious. "It's the only permanent solution... Truth spells don't last so long. and i'm not a unicorn, so it's not like i can use magic on myself." he now stared down, at the ground.
He continued his tale before Aero could process what he said and retort. "Lying.. Faking only hurts people. They think they like me... then they abandon me. Because it's all an act. why wouldn't they? They feel betrayed. The only use my talent has is making sure people stay away from me, and don't become attached to me. Covering up it's traces. What destiny could there possibly be in store for a liar?" He said, voice still flat, eyes on the ground. It was getting very hard to read the exact feeling Ave had. Was he sad? confused? Angry? irritated? Aero couldn't tell, but it could be any of those. But he could tell Ave wasn't happy.. and was desperate.

| Aero felt helpless in the face of Ave's adversity. He honestly couldn't give a solution. He didn't know the full extent of his life's experiences or his problems. But he refused to believe that anyones destiny could be so full of misery.
"Look, I can't imagine what it's like to be in your...situation." Aero had never been good with been supportive or tactful in his speech. Instead, he decided to approach the issue from a place of logic and understanding. "It must be difficult. Not everyone's talents or destinies are crystal clear. But erasing your mark...is to erase part of your identity."

| "Because my identity up to so far has been so great?" Ave retorted. he no long intended to go to sleep. although he was tired and battered, he was dead ready for this discussion, and wouldn't be pushed over so easily, Staring Aero straight in the eyes. Ave didn't stop to think for Aero's intentions, even thought Aero meant well, and in any other state of mind, Ave could see this. Right now, Ave was maddened. A side effect of these untrustworthy tomes, no doubt.
"And my destiny is clear enough to me. It's nothing i want part of." He said, without knowing what his true destiny was, just assuming it was something bad from the nature of his cutie mark and how life had been so far.
