Jet's Hope (1x1)

In the dark of a moonless night, a couple fleeing from their vicious pursuers left a bundle on the doorstep of the Canterlot Orphanage with a hastily written note and kiss, before darting off into the shadows, having their lives cut short by a blast of green magic.

A unicorn mare in a gown opened the door and saw the bundled foal, picking it up with an aura of magic and reading the note. "Oh my..." She said, quickly taking the foal inside.

3 years later,

The Canterlot Orphanage is holding its first adoption day of the year, most of the foals are playing in the atrium, giggling and screaming like foals do.

But there was one foal who lay upstairs wrapped in a messy bundle of sheets, his eyes closed as he slept, not wanting to go downstairs and be around the others.

Tenebris was doing a delivery to the orphanage, She saw all the foals playing and screaming , but then she quickly noticed another foal laying upstairs, sleeping.
"Hey, who is this little guy?" she asked one of the Mares working there, pointing at the foal

"Oh, that's Jetstream, the poor little one was left here three years ago." The caretaker said softly. "He spends a lot of his time wrapped up in the sheets of his bed... He's very shy."

Tenebris tried to hold back tears "Oh, poor little foal" she said with her cold and quiet voice

"We have had some issues caring for him... He has nervous breakdowns when around strangers... We've been a bit hesitant to let ponies adopt him." The caretaker said. "If you feel that you're up for it, I could get the paperwork ready."

Tenebris smiled softly "Of course I can take him, I have a quiet little home near the woods. I just want the poor little thing have a normal life" Tenebris looked at the foal "Dont worry miss, I understand him... I didnt have the best childhood too"

"Right this way." The caretaker said, trotting towards a small office. "I'm glad that somepony is finally adopting him." She added as she levitated a small pile of papers, the top one was the foal's birth certificate, stating that he was half-changeling. "Just fill out these forms and bring them to me when you're done, then after paying the adoption fee, you can take him home."

Tenebris sat down on a chair and began filling out the forms she noticed the certificate saying he is a half changeling A half changeling? That would explain a lot she thought
Tenebris has done all the forms and took out a bag of bits as she called for the caretaker
"I'm done" she said

The caretaker, Haven, smiled and took the bits. "Very good, I'll go wake him." She said, trotting over to the crib and leaning in, she lifted the bundle of sheets with her magic, nudging the foal slightly.

Tenebris waited for the caretaker, she was a little excited

Haven returned, carrying the small foal in a blanket. "Well. Here he is." She said, levitating him over to Tenebris.

Jetstream shivered a little, uttering a rather pathetic squeak in protest as he trembled in fear of this unfamiliar pony. He whimpered and retreated further into the blanket, tears streaming from his big eyes.

Tenebris wiped the tears out of his face "Dont worry, I wont hurt you little guy"
She said

Jetstream recoiled a little bit, before taking in the warmth and nestling into the earth pony mare's mane. He seemed to a relax a little and his shivering died down to a steady breathing of his tiny lungs.

"You'll be save now" she said giving him a soft nuzzle

Jet made a soft cooing noise, a faint memory of him snuggling into his real mother's soft golden mane, he sniffled and yawned, opening his eyes. "M-mommy...?" He squeaked faintly, looking around in a bit of a daze.

"Sorry, Im not your mommy.."
"But I'm here to take care of you" she said

Jetstream flicked his little ears, his eyes welling up with tears again as he retreated into the blanket once more. "I miss my mommy.."

"I know.." she said as they went home.
As they arrived, Tenebris lays him on a warm bed and wrapped him up in a new blanket
"You have a home now" She said and gave him a soft smile

Jetstream huddled into the new blanket and looked up at Tenebris. "Miss Haven told me my mommy died.." he squeaked.

"I dont know if this is true" she said
"I lost someone I really loved in my life.. My brother got murdered when I was just a filly" she explained, trying to hold back tears

Jetstream tilted his head, looking up at Tenebris with a pout. "Murd...murderded?" he asked, unfamiliar with that word. "What does murder.. Murderded mean?"

(What a word to teach a kid.. XD)

"Like how the weird bugs Murd....ered my mommy?" Jetstream asked, sniffling.

Weird bugs? She thought ... Oh, the Changelings..
"Well lets talk about that later.. Are you hungry?"

"Y-yeah... I am.." He said softly, sitting up, still wrapped in the dark blue blanket.
