| A light breeze, a few clouds in the sky but mostly sunny... today was perfect. At least, that's what the brown-coated Pegasus thought. Arpeggio had been pleased; he had moved into town into that nice house with relatively little issue, save for a little difficulty getting the piano into the basement; thankfully the movers had done a good job. As it was, he was just taking in the sights of town, resting on a bench in the town square. He began to quietly sing a tune that came to mind.
"...Ooh... I like how that sounds. I bet I can use that..." He pulled a pen and a sheet of staff paper out of his saddlebags and began writing. "...Okay, if I go from there... Half Cadence? ...No, a Deceptive Cadence will be far better..." He, like he so often did when in the midst of composing, became less aware of his surroundings.

| Usually Moon Whistle was not out at this time of day, but today she had been running some errands and bought some groceries. Heading home with saddle bags full of tasty newly bought vegetables. She was in a good mood, despite being a tad tired, since she had had a long night with some studies.
Crossing the town square, she noticed an unfamiliar pony sitting on a bench mumbling something. Being a little curious about the mumbles, she walked a little closer, wondering if the pegasus was sick or something.

| "...And perhaps a trill there... and- Oh!" He had noticed the unicorn looking at him with a curious expression. "...Um... hi. Sorry, I tend to not pay attention to things around me when I'm composing." He set his paper and pen down, extending a hoof. "I'm assuming you're one of the locals? I'm Arpeggio. Pleased to meet you." He gave her a bright smile. | |

| Moon Whistle gave a shy smile back and then walked even closer and took a quick peak at the paper - and did not understand any of the markings on it. Then she looked at the extended hoof and grabbed it with her own. "I'm Moon Whistle." she introduced herself, her voice tiny and low. She took another glance at the paper and asked, "Composing, eh? You're a musician?"
Moon Whistle found artistic and creative ponies fascinating, as she herself did not possess any creative talents of such kind. She could be studious, but making things was not easy for her.

| "That's a nice name, Moon Whistle. Yes, I am a musician... I sing and do composition." He smiled at the unicorn. "I actually just moved into town not long ago. A few days, maybe."
"Anyway. What do you do, Moon Whistle?"

| "Eh... " She stammered a little, "Nothing important, really. I study the sky and space." Moon Whistle rebalanced her load, since she was carrying the whole week's shopping with her - or at least half a week's worth. She was not that strong pony, but her groceries were not too heavy, at least. To change the subject from her doings, she grabbed the idea of a new face in town. "I thought I saw the moving crew some days ago." she said, "Where did you move from?" | |

| "That's quite interesting." The Pegasus smiled slightly. "I'm from Cloudsdale, actually. Lived there for pretty much all my life, if you don't count the hotels the Manehattan Chamber Choir stayed at while I was a part of that as 'Living somewhere.' He chuckled warmly. "What about you?" He noticed the difficulty she seemed to be having with her groceries. "Do you need some help with those?" | |

| "Ah, I'm fine with these, thanks anyway." she replied and felt a blush starting somewhere below her chin and raising up her face. She moved her hooves a tad, bit her lip and then replied to Arpeggio's question: "Indeed, I'm a local, Ponyville-born, Ponyville-raised." There was a small hint of pride in her voice, even if the ponies around Equestria might've thought that citizens of Ponyville were somewhat unrefined.
"How have you settled, so far?" she asked then, feeling kind of curious about this new pony around. She rebalanced her load again, thinking of taking a swift trip to home to get the groceries to the storage.

| "I've been doing well, I think. Mostly just getting used to the new home; you're actually the first resident I've really talked to... suppose I just got lucky that it was such a cute mare." He gave her a chuckle and slight smirk; he had been sincere, he did think she was cute.
"Are you sure you don't need some help with those, Moon Whistle?" He got up off the bench, slipping his pen and paper into his saddlebag. He hoped that his large size wouldn't make her uncomfortable. "I'd be happy to help you."

| Moon Whistle was not used to flirting. She was not used on getting compliments. It did not matter, who said she was cute, it could've been anypony - the blush raised over her face and she turned her eyes away from Arpeggio, not quite sure what to say. All this made her a little confused, especially considering how she had already a slight crush on somepony else.
"Ah, well, um..." she murmured and moved her feet again in a basful manner. "I was kind of thinking of carrying my shopping home and maybe prepare some lunch. It's not too far, I really ... um..." What am I doing?, she thought, Somepony is being nice to me and I am refusing their help. How dumb can I be...? She stammered again, then coughed a little. "I mean," she said "Help would be really nice of you."

| It wasn't that he was trying to overly flirt with her; it took a certain kind of pony to catch his eye in that manner, but he always complemented those he felt should get them.
"I'd be happy to assist you." He smiled at her, taking her saddlebags of groceries. "Lead the way, Moon Whistle." Arpeggio would never let it be said that he wasn't a gentlecolt.

| She took the lead and started following a road to the edge of the town. Moon Whistle was not quite sure what to think of this situation, since she rarely invited anyone to her home, or at least near it. She took a pleasant beat to her trot and examined Arpeggio with her amber eyes. He seemed a very nice pony, she thought. To open up a little conversation and to get to know this stranger better, she asked; "What kind of music is your thing?" | |

| Arpeggio followed just a little behind her. "I'm a classically-trained singer... and I mostly sing classical music; Opera, Baroque, things like that. I play the piano, too. That, though... I like playing Jazz for." He chuckled warmly. "As far as composition goes, I'll try my hoof at just about any style."
"You said you study the sky and space, right? What for, if I may ask? That sounds really interesting."

| "Well, it's just that I take notes on what happens in the sky and sometimes get together with others of my profession and learn more about stuff. It's nothing important, considering that Princess Luna is guarding the night anyway." Moon Whistle explained. She found her own profession ever so interesting, delightful and full of awe, but not many did see it in the same way as she did. "That's why I usually work at nights."
Then she was silent for a moment, as it seemed that she had nothing else to say about her own work. Maybe later she could show the star map or her small copy of the moon or something, since it was rather difficult to explain the whole thing just by words. "Heh," she chuckled and then said, "to be quite honest, I don't understand anything about music. Except that my grandma used to play her old gramophone to me, when I had difficulties to fall asleep. Moonlight Sonata is my favourite."

| He listened to her description. "That does sound quite interesting. Even with the Princess guarding the night, there's nothing wrong with indulging in a curiosity." He smiled when she talked about the song. "Is that so? I love Moonlight Sonata, too... that was one of my mother's favorite pieces. I'd be happy to play it for you sometime. Beethoofen was an amazing composer..." His smile seemed to brighten. | |

| "Wasn't he deaf?" Moon Whistle asked, since Arpeggio seemed to be more educated about the great composers of the past. "At least I remember somepony in my family saying so. My parents are not artsy types, though, farmers tend to be somewhat practical." Suddenly Moon Whistle noticed she was babbling about all unnecessary things. She rolled her eyes to herself and closed her mouth tight. Though, it was very nice of Arpeggio to offer to play the song that held so many memories of Moon Whistle's youth. The blue unicorn tried to remember where she had seen the old gramophone last time. Anyway, it had been a long time ago. She made a mental note to ask about the grammy's grammy, when she'd visit her parents next time. | |

| "He was, though he wasn't always. He had an ear condition called Tinnitus; occasionally weather ponies get that nowadays. In the most severe cases, it'll ring so loudly in your ears that you can't hear. That's what happened to him. Some historians think that that was linked to another disease that isn't really around anymore, but I don't know anything about that." He seemed really energetic; it was clear that he enjoyed what he was talking about.
"...Oh, I'm rambling, I'm so sorry... I tend to do that when I get really talking about music..." He averted his eyes, blushing slightly. "Um... about how far are we from your home?"

| Moon Whistle seemed to have hit the right spot, as the musician started to ramble on about Beethoofen - although the subject was somewhat interesting, since Moon Whistle had never been paying too much attention on the subject of classical music or the composers of said music. While talking, the two ponies had approached the area, where Moon Whistle lived. Well, technically speaking, Ponyville was not that large of a city, but it took some time to reach the edge streets. "No, don't be sorry." Moon Whistle said and gave a little smile to Arpeggio, "I'm a good listener, they say, and I am learning new things, when I listen." She beamed at him, and then continued, "We are nearly there, just a few houses and my home's next. See, the one with red roof." She pointed at the mentioned house. | |

| He laughed sheepishly, a blush still on his face. "...T-Thanks... if I had a bit for every pony I've scared away or just freaked out with my rambling..." He looked where she was pointing. "Ah, I see..." He continued walking, face still flushed from embarrassment. The smile she'd given him hadn't helped any. | |

| A rare occasion, it seemed to Moon Whistle, that she had made somepony else uncomfortable. Usually it was the other way round, so this was a completely new situation to the blue unicorn. Sher blinked at the pegasus' flustered appearance and gave a nervous smile.
They arrived to her house and Moon Whistle rushed to open the door. "Um..." she said looking somewhat embarrassed, "It might be a bit messy inside there, sorry." Her voice was apologetic. "I don't get many visitors, really."

| "T-That's quite alright. Where do you want me to put the groceries?" He was still flustered; after all, he'd just met a cute mare that he hadn't weirded out with his quirks... | |

| "Just put them into the kitchen corner", Moon Whistle replied, when she was levitating the key back to its nail, where she usually kept it. Quickly the unicorn tossed some dirty socks out of sight and collected some of her encyclopedias to a more neat - if that was even possible - pile. She had left several of her notepapers scattered on the floor, as well as many empty bowls, where she had had some late night's snacks and other stuff.
"So, um..." she murmured, as she lifted a carpet and kicked some other stuff under it, "I'd offer you lunch for all the trouble, but, um... I am not a too tidy of a pony, as you see." She was somewhat embarrassed, especially since her mother had always taught her to clean up after herself and now the unicorn had left her comfortable, weird, filled-with-funny-stuff bachelorette box to this state. But as she had said, Moon Whistle rarely had any visitors.

| "That's very kind of you to offer... I'd be happy to accept it if you'd let me help you clean up a little..." He gave a slight smile as he set the groceries in the kitchen corner as she asked. "And it's alright... I had a Griffon friend while I was with the Manehattan Chamber Choir named Julian, oh, dear Celestia; he was absolutely awful at keeping tidy." He snickered slightly, going into the living room and helping her clean up. "Just tell me where you want things and I'll put them there." | |

| "Noooooooo, I really can't let you go trough my dirty laundry and notepapers." Moon Whistle said completely embarrassed about all of the mess in her tiny home. She gathered her notes in a pile, using her levitating magic like a whirlwind. "I usually keep my papers and books in my study, but the furniture here is quite a lot more comfortable", she explained and placed the pile on a small table, then getting ready to shoo some dustbunnies out of the house. She turned and smacked the pile of papers with her tail, managing to knock it all over again. | |
