Crime can always be found in Manehattan

Once he exited the stairwell to the second floor of the abandoned building and looked around to make sure that no one was there with him, Suspicious Package walked over to the nearest window to observe the scene. As usual, the streets below him were mostly empty, aside from a few homeless ponies here and there and a handful of pedestrians walking around at a quick, usually nervous pace. None of these ponies would factor into the situation, though. They all knew how it worked in the slums, so they also knew simply look the other way when something bad happened. Looking towards a certain building, the Pegasus could see Broken Heart, the newbie, standing around patiently, waiting for his turn to act just as expected. Shifting his gaze to look farther down the street, the stallion could also see a filly going down the sidewalk in their direction, also according to plan. After all, interesting distractions mixed with false directions could do a lot in certain situations, which was why she was there in the first place, completely oblivious to the scheme that was being carried out.

Package made sure that he couldn't be spotted by the filly from his current position, which was slightly difficult to do considering his fairly bright coat, but manageable nonetheless, as he watched Broken Heart. This would be his first big involvement in organized crime, and so the Pegasus had to make sure that the stallion would be able to handle the situation up to his 'boss's' expectations. He had talked to the Unicorn briefly, and in his own opinion he thought the pony would perform well. Violence was not to be a part of the grab, so he should have been able to easily handle his given role. If it all went according to plan, of course. Many things could still go wrong, and Package could only hope that their actions would be performed without a hitch.

Bight Sides had been wandering the Slums of Manhattan for hours now, what had been a simple visit to a friend house had ended up with her getting lost multiple times. Holding up a doll of a grey pony wearing a hard hat and vest she started talking to it. "Are you sure we were supposed to go left at the last corner Papa?....maybe i got my rights and lefts mixed up again....Come on maybe we can find a guard pony to help us!" She puts the doll halfway into her saddle bags so his head and front hooves stick out as she continues to walk down the sidewalk humming with a smile on her face.

Vassago had heard of the exchange years before it happened. (not literal years, more like hours, but what if he could? temporal audio-clairvoyance? Hmm... something to look into.) His Masters cared not for his petty little information business, but there were some interesting characters around this job, so they allowed him to go for the sake of his Purpose.

What was the challenge was he wasn't able to read up on any of the ponies involved. He didn't even know who was making the exchange. He only assumed it was the bright orange-maned stallion, but he couldn't be sure.

OzyManedias was still in PonyVille, so Vassago had to be careful. He looked over his ragged little hoodie one more time to make sure he was well blended in with the wino's and ragamuffins of the street.

Sit and watch, thats what he intended to do.

Absolutely nothing risky.

This wasn't Burning Heart's first time getting guard duty in the slums. She never got used to the smell or the appearance. Maybe that was from being a Canterlot mare. She liked the higher class areas. It was much more pleasant, and ponies tended to cause much less trouble in those areas. But her boss, I guess you would call it boss, insisted she'd go and keep patrol and make sure nothing bad was going to happen. Obviously it would. She was just their to either stop it or lessen the damage.

While walking through the streets, she saw quite a few suspicious looking ponies. She had no idea if that was just coincidence, or if they were planning something. But she would certainly take care of them without an issue. Walking down the streets, she saw a filly wandering with a gray pony doll that had a hard hat and a vest sticking out of a saddlebag, and she was talking to it, calling it Papa. She did not want to get involved, although she was a bit worried for her. She stopped her and began to speak.

"Excuse me, little filly. Aren't you supposed to be home? Are you lost? Maybe I can help you."

It was almost liked she was required to say that every time she saw a foal walking around. She's said it so many times...

Munch.

Evergreen happily chewed on an apple as she walked down the sidewalks of Manehattan. She had just visited a friend who lived in the city, and was seeing the sites before her journey back to Ponyville. She noticed a few sketchy looking ponies, but paid them no mind.

Further down the way, she noticed a little filly and what looked to be a royal guard. She was within earshot when she decided to take a seat on a nearby bench. Occasionally glancing up at the pair, she savored her apple as she whiddled it down to the last few bites.

Broken Heart, hooves shaking, watched the guard go up to the filly.
No no no.
This was not according to plan.

He tried to "play it cool" and act like he hasn't been waiting for her for the past hour.
If he gets this wrong it's all over.
All over indeed.
He was new, and this was his one chance to prove that he was useful, so a lot was on the line.
He didn't want some guard to mess up the plan, so, using the little magic abilities he had, lifted a rock with magic and threw it into a window.
That'll get the pesky guards distracted for a bit.
Time to get to the plan.

No. Come on, this ain't fair.

Package watched with a frown as a guard approached the target and began to talk to her, quite unhappy with how quickly the plan had gone wrong. This made matters slightly more complicated, but not completely unmanageable. The Pegasus shifted his gaze to Broken Heart and was about to speak to the pony, but then saw him lift up a rock and throw it at a nearby window, shattering it.

Resourceful. That's good.

Making sure he wasn't seen by anypony that mattered, Package used his wings to quickly fly over to the other side of the street before the guard could have responded to the noise, into an alley near the newly shattered window. Once he got there, he put himself up next to the wall of the nearest building, and yelled with the best 'panicked pony' voice that he could manage.

"HELP! HE'S TRYING TO KILL ME!"

There. That should improve the distraction. A little noise probably could have distracted the guard for a few moments, but what kind of security pony didn't answer a cry for help in a possible murder situation? Once the Pegasus had done this, he propelled himself to the second floor of a nearby building and hid, once again keeping overwatch over the situation.

Sunny smiled up at the guard and opened her mouth to say something when suddenly a shatter of glass and a scream for help was heard, causing her to push that guard pony towards the sounds "Hurry miss Guard pony somepony needs help!!" She says "Don’t worry I’ll be here when you get back!"

Vassago heard something crash through a window, then somepony scream.
"HELP! HE'S TRYING TO KILL ME!"

"Oooooooh." Vassago purred as he retreated to a very convenient shadow. "They are good." Hopefully, they would never see him and if anypony saw him, he would fix that very quickly. He was very good at making ponies see exactly what he wanted, and much more. He watched as a filly and a guard ran down the street towards the source of the noise. He silently followed the two in the shade, nothing but the shadow at the edge of their vision.

Burning Heart was talking to the filly, but then soon after she heard a loud crash, glass breaking, and a cry for help. What else could she expect in the Slums? At least some action was going on. Much better than talking to lost foals. The filly said she'd stay where she was. She couldn't tell if that was good or bad. Good because she would stay put, but bad because something worse could happen to her. But it sounded like assault, verging on murder was happening, and she had to respond to even fulfill a fiber of her duty.

Burning Heart bolted towards where she heard the screams. She had a grin on her face from finally running to a crime scene. That's one thing she liked about the Slums. She got to respond to actual crimes. She ran into the alleyway where she heard the screams.

"Equestrian guard! Don't move!" Of course, that never works. they always move. Run away more like it

Broken Heart carefully observes the guard, slowly walking away from the filly and to the distraction, and realizes this would probably be the only time no eyes were on him, and lunges at the filly, putting a potato sack over her face and carefully puts her in his carriage carefully, not wanting to bruise her, or the boss might get mad. He then proceeds to go to the location he's supposed to meet him.

Worked perfectly. Awesome. Package watched the security pony as she ran over to the alley he had been in a second ago, the target filly attempting to push her along part of the way. The mare stopped her dash once she entered the alley, seemingly ready for a fight or chase, and spoke in a loud voice once she had arrived.

"Equestrian guard! Don't move!"

Package watched the mare for a second, grinning to himself slightly. Within a few moments, he looked back towards the nearby street, seeing Broken Heart lunging at the target filly and putting a potato sack over her head, obviously taking care not to hurt her in the process. I would've taken a more talking-based approach, but whatever. S'long as the end result is the same. He watched as his partner in crime loaded the filly into a carriage and proceeded to leave the location in order to head towards their designated rendezvous point, happy to see that nothing had gone terribly wrong. Well, as long as the security mare doesn't see anything, we're good to go. With that thought, the stallion looked back down into the alley to cast a glance at how the mare had responded to her situation.

Sunny suddenly had her head covered by something "Hey where the light go!"..."Did the Princess go take a nap?! Hello!?" her voice was muffled by the sack, and after a few minutes she just kinda fell asleep. Well she had been walking for hours and a growing filly needs her rest. "Dancing cookies...where did you go..."

"Wait What?" Vassago blinked.

There were alot of things that were Okay or Not-Okay.

Okay things include: the Black Market, Thievery, Snooping, Blackmail, Self Defense (or "Self Defense" when there was a pony that needed to be... taken care of.), and of course, Information Brokering. Very well can't do his own job if he found it amoral.

Not-Okay things included: Drug trafficking, Slavery, unnecessary murder, stupidity, illiteracy (Nameless was a special case.) and worse of all FOALNAPPING.

He latched onto the shadow of the carriage. He had to contact OzyManedias. A direct channel would be too stressful. Why oh why didn't he know this was a FOALNAPPING.

He slowly returned to his corporeal form and grabbed the underside of the carriage. the driver hadn't seen him, which was good. He glanced nervously at the cobblestone street directly under him.

His horn glowed softly as he shut his eyes to concentrate.
"OzyManedias?"

OzyManedias enjoyed a nice cup of tea at a restaurant he was rarely able to visit on account of it being in Manehattan.

He sat alone, the courtyard that he sat in was fairly secluded. One of the reasons he like this establishment. The radio played a favorite singer of his:

Ozy jumped ten feet into the air before plummeting into his seat.

"What the Buck!" He gasped, trying to force his heart to continue working.

YES YES I KNOW THIS MUST BE VERY SCARY BUT PLEASE OZY ITS VASSAGO I NEED YOU TO-

"Wait... Vassago? the creepy foal that helped me-" OzyManedias couldn't hear it but Vassago's eyes rolled."

YES FOR MY MASTERS' SAKE YES JUST SHUT UP FOR A SECOND I NEED YOU TO GO TO THE CORNER OF 5TH AVENUE AND FIND A CARRIAGE ITS VERY IMPORTANT YOU FIND THE CARRIAGE I AM ON I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED THEY TOOK A FOAL.

OzyManedias was at a loss. He hadn't seen Vassago since he had helped him in investigating corruption in a local precinct of the guard. Why was he asking OzyManedias for help?

As if he could read Ozy's mind, the radio responded one last time.

THE RIGHT PONY IN THE WRONG PLACE CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD- sing from above / Everyday words seem to turn / Into love songs / Give your heart and soul to me / And life will always be / La vie en rose...

The calm soothing tones of Louis Hoofstrong eminated from the radio once more. OzyManedias stood up, paid his check, and left the Cafe.

"Today is not going to be a pleasant day." He frowned. He didn't know this strange foal very well, but he did know that he had a certain tendency of causing more trouble then he was worth.

Burning Heart ran down the alleyway. There was only the pony who was assaulted. he didn't appear to take that much damage. She stood in front of the pony who was calling for help. She really wished the stallion hadn't gotten away. Makes her wish she was a Pegasus.

"Sir? Are you okay? Did you get a good look at the pony who attacked you?"

Broken Heart looks around, getting the subtle feeling of being watched. He classified it as jitters and kept on driving, nearing the location. He looks at the filly, and to his relief, she's fallen asleep.

Everything's going as plan.

((Hey yo Brawny, the assault was fake. No one was assaulted, Package just yelled for help to draw Burning Heart's attention. :P))

"Sir? Are you okay? Did you get a good look at the pony who attacked you?"

Well, that's...convenient...I think. Package watched for a second as the guardpony attempted to help a seemingly assaulted pony located farther down the alley. He was somewhat surprised that such a coincidence would take place, but all in all it really didn't change anything.

The Pegasus hopped down from the building he was in and landed on the ground at the entrance of the alley, after which he walked out onto the street and watched as Broken Heart's carriage got farther and farther away. He thought he could see some sort of strange bulge on the bottom of the vehicle, but payed it no mind. Package gave an overexaggerated exhale to remedy some of his tension, and then began to walk in the direction that the carriage had gone at a slow pace.

Sunny snores softly in her sleep having no idea of what would become of her upon awakening. But as of this moment she was dreaming....a rather strange dream at that.

*Inside Bright Sides Dreamland*

The worlds greatest Adventuring filly Bright Sides was jumping from pillar to pillar overtop a fiery lake of lava followed close behind by her cigar smoking 5 o clock shadowed partner...BooBoo Mcfluffykins the Teddy Bear! "S-Slow down kid! I'm not as young as I once was you know!" he says as he almost falls into the lava. "Come on BooBoo last one to the Crystal is a Rotten Dragon egg!" She says before continuing towards a large statue. On top of this statue a large Crystal sat. "And I Thought her Mom as a kid was bad.." BooBoo says out of breathe.

*In the Real world*

"Dun-da-dun-tah....dun-da-ta, dun-da-dun-ta" Sunny Smiles as she sings softly in her sleep.

OzyManedias got onto 5th Avenue and stole a carriage. Well he didn't steal it but the gentleponies who motorized it were kind enough to allow Ozy to drive the thing. He slowly started to go down the street, on the lookout for a carriage with two filly shapes on them.

After a good while, he spotted one that seemed to be going a little to fast for an Urban speed limit. He allowed them to pass, only to notice a small, greenish tan lump attached to the rear bumper.

Vassago waved at OzyManedias.

"Alright. Stallions, be so kind as to follow that carriage, as inconspicuous as you can." He addressed the Tom, Dick, and Harry that was hitched to his carriage.

"Inconspicu-what now?"

"Just... er... 'be cool?'"

"You got it, Mack."

They slowly started to trundle off after the carriage. Vassago held on with all his little might, but was quickly feeling drained. Magic tended to do that. Unfathomable cosmic power usually is met with very little stamina for it.

Burning Heart looked down the alley, and realized her stupidity. There was no injured pony there. Probably some hooligans hunting for attention... Burning Heart sighed, and trotted back to where the filly was. Only to see that she was gone. Probably got bored standing around. Burning would have too.

Burning looked nearby and saw a carriage with a little bump sticking out of it. Odd. She decided to investigate it. It was going rather fast. Even more suspicious. She chased after it. Could it be that the filly was foalnapped? Heh, crime can always be found in Manehattan

Broken Heart couldn't shake the feeling that he was being followed. Out of precaution, he hid the sleeping filly amidst some crates and rugs that were on the carriage. He then looked at the bottom of the carriage, only to find a pony hanging on with all of his might. He started to swerve the carriage in all directions, trying to shake the meddling spy off. Everything was going wrong.

Vassago yelped as the driver started to swerve and in general drive erratically.

"HEY!" He yelled as he struggled to maintain balance. "What do you think your doing? Can't you see we are going to cra-" under his fur, his face blanched as the driver drove towards a building.

"EVERYPONY BAIL!" The foal screamed at the top of his lungs. The two ponies that were driving the carriage jumped out of the way as Vassago grabbed the sleeping foal and dived off the carriage.

The driver, however was less fortunate. He was sent careening into the abandoned tenements of Manehattan.

Vassago glanced at the filly sleeping fitfully next to him. Who would be dumb enough to get Foalnapped? Obviously this one.

OzyManedias stopped his carriage and hopped off, taking a moment to thank the owners before running to Vassago's side. "What happened? are you okay?" He noticed the sleeping filly. "Is she okay? Goodness I think I saw her in my store once!"

Vassago sat up, breathing heavily. "Yes... we are fine..." He glanced at the wrecked carriage in the building.

"Unfortunately, the driver is... indisposed."

OzyManedias frowned. "Ah. I see."

As Package walked down the street towards the previously designated rendezvous, he heard hoofsteps behind him, which were being produced at a fast pace. The Pegasus looked back to see that the guard from earlier had decided to chase after the carriage, and was about to pass him. Huh. Well, can't have that become a problem. He shifted his gaze back to the direction in which he was walking, and then happened to 'accidentally' place his hoof a bit too far to the side and cause the guardpony to trip and fall. The accident wouldn't put the mare out of commission, but it would at least give his partner a bit more time.

The stallion looked to the guard and spoke a quite plausible apology. "Oh, so sorry 'bout that! Are you alright?"

From the corner of his vision, Package saw that his partner's carriage had begun to perform some very sporadic and violent maneuvers. He looked towards the vehicle and watched it for a few moments, not continuing his walk. What...is he doing? A few moments of this jerky movement and the carriage ended up crashing into the side of a nearby building, the buldge that had been under it, which Package could now see was in fact an older foal, managing to escape the incident and save the target filly in the process. A second pony arrived at the scene, and proceeded to talk to the unknown foal.

The stallion simply froze where he was, mouth gaping open and a stunned expression obvious on his face. Wha...? Nononononoooo... How in Celestia's name could this bucking happen? Dammit, this is bad...
