May......meets somepony?

"That's a nice blade." she commented, smiling brightly. "Okay, lead the way." 

May bit her lip nervously, pondering the adventure with Shy. Would he try anything? Would he not try anything? Would her ignore her? What if something happened? 

As she thought, she absently bumped into Shy. Her hoof gravitated towards his, and she tried to hold it back.

Shy looked at May, who bumped into him. He noticed the direction her hoof went in. Did she want him to? He took a chance and held her hoof in his, giving her a shy smile (heh) and leading her into the forest. He cut through a few bits of foliage with the sword; ponies hadn't been here for some time so the cave the chasm was in had overgrown. He found the hole and slid down into the cave.

He looked around the area. Stalactites were hanging from the ceiling and there was the occasional bat around. This was pretty cool already! He took the sword out again and looked around the place. Satisfied nothing was going to rip them apart, he moved through a corridor and found himself at the chasm. There was a sort of green mist obscuring the bottom, so Shy was ever the more curious to find a way down.

"Any ideas how to get down there?"

May smiled back nervously, letting him lead her. 

The cave was pretty cool, May loved the bats flying around.

"Hm, dunno. Just, go down?" she laughed, letting go of his hoof. She unsheathed her dagger and stealthily stalked downwards. She slowed down a bit, not daring to breathe the green fog.

Shy held his hoof over his moutg as they passed through the mist. Luckily he didn't inhale any and it didn't look like May had either. Good- he'd hate for her to get hurt. He blushed a little again when he thought about that. 

When they reached the bottom of the chasm, Shy took a look around. There didn't really seem to be a lot there- just a few rocks and some weird little white thing far away. He was curious as to the white thing though, so he walked up to it. Picking it up, he saw that it was a pony's skull. What could have done that? He looked to Mat.

"I don't like this. The atmosphere's nice but I don't fact getting done in by whatever it was that did this."

He stopped dead and went pale when an earth shaking roar came from behind.

May's neck snapped up, searching for the source of the sound. She pursed her lips and twirled her dagger, readying herself. She glanced to Shy, wondering if he was alright. 

"Hey, you okay? You look like death." she asked with concern, but looked up when the roar came again.

"You go left I go right?" she asked with a nervous laugh. Without waiting for an answer, she turned and walked to the right of the sound.

Shy moved quietly into the left part, opposite May. He nervously took little swings of the sword, hiding in an alcove. As he hid, he felt the ground shaking and heard large crashes, escalating in intensity as whatever was approaching came closer.

He looked to May, hoping she'd give him courage. Shy wasn't a particularly fearful pony but he wasn't exactly the type to start throwing stones at timberwolves. He wasn't sure what to do- he could just kill it or maybe wait for it to pass by then sneak away. He waited in the alcove until the beast had passed by. He peeked out and saw a hydra retreating. This one was unusual though- it was absolutely massive. He looked to may and mouthed 'What should we do?".

May pursed her lips. She looked to the hydra, it had it's back turned and was still walking. Still checking to make sure it didn't turn around, she tip-toed silently to Shy. 

"We should probably get the hell outta here." she whispered. Tucking her knife away, she slinks quietly away from the hydra, towards the entrance of the cave. She turned back to Shy, "Unless you want to stay." she smirked.

Shy followed May outside, taking her hoof and galloping up the ramp to the exit. However, the a massive yellow hand grabbed hold of him and lifted him up. The hydra held Shy in front of each if its eyes on each head to inspect him. Shy himself just looked in fear. He thought about how to break out of it's grip. He wriggled his hoof, trying to get it free. He managed to get it out and drew his sword. He jabbed the blade into the Hydra's hand, making it bellow in anger and drop the pony. 

Shy landed on his back. He lay in pain for a moment before rolling over to avoid a colossal foot crushing him. He jumped up and ran, grabbing May's hoof as he went.

"I don't think we can kill it! We need to get out. I don't want to lose you."

May held back a scream as Shy was taken. She withdrew a throwing star, but Shy had already gotten down. She glanced back at the hydra, glaring at it with a death-stare, but followed him out. She felt a blush coming on, and thought I don't want to lose you either. 


She took a deep breath, and turned around. Swiftly, she threw her shuriken at the beast. It sliced into one of its necks, but merely slowed it down. May frowned, and turned to run with Shy. She galloped through the trees, deftly dodging roots and vines. She never let go of Shy's hoof, not wanting to lose sight of him. 

The hydra stopped at the tree line, tripping over the hanging foliage. May laughed and slowed down. "Man that was fun!"

May had lead Shy out of the woods- he hadn't really known how to escape, especially with all the foliage in the way. When she said that was fun, he was about to ask if she was mental. However, he kind of saw the funny side of it and laughed a little.

He looked at the Hydra walking away- evidently it just wanted them out of it's territory. He looked at May.

"Yeah, that was pretty fun. What should we do now?"

As he looked at her he felt heat rushing to his face. Did he look alright? Was he acting strangely? He hoped not. He still felt nervous around May. She seemed almost like somepony he was striving to be his best for. It felt weird- normally he wouldn't care. That kind of worried him. He still couldn't figure out how he'd managed to get so close to her and let her get close to him. Normally he just pushed mares away, bu he felt perfectly at home with May.

"Hm," she said, tapping her chin, "We should....not go back" 

She laughed, yes, actual laughage. It was so easy around Shy. Why? she just couldn't figure it out. He was just....perfect. 

'Um, what do you want to do?" she asked rather nervously. Who knows why? She looked up at him, quietly glancing from him to the ground. 

Man, she was getting nervous.

Shy laughed along with May. He got on really well with this mare. After they stopped laughing, he noticed May was starting to look a bit nervous. He looked around. Well he didn't see anything dangerous. Oh. Did she want to....? Nah.

"Well, I don't really know. We've been doing what I want to do this whole time though- dont you think we should do something you want to do?"

He was starting to feel a bit got under the collar (metaphorically of course) and was feeling a blush coming on.

"What, I want to do....." she thought for a moment, "how about....we find the ruins of Nightmare Moon's castle! " 

She had always wanted to find the ruins, but was a bit scared to go on her own, though she'd never admit it. The castle was pretty deep into the Everfree, so she'd never found it. Shy seemed like a fairly good companion for this journey. He was pretty brave, and handsome, and dreamy, and-May shook her head. 

What in the world? She pouted childishly, wishing the thoughts would stop, but also hoping that they wouldn't. Anyhow, Shy had a sword and was brave enough to come this far, would he go a little further? May bit her lip.

Shy was a little confused about that one. Nightmare moon's castle? Was she mental? Still, he supposed if she was with him they'd both be peachy.


"Sounds like a plan then. Let me check the map......"


He looked over the map. He saw there was a marking of a sort of stone structure. That looked like the ticket. He started following the path on the map. It wasn't very far away, so they'd reach it pretty quickly.


Shy noticed May was biting her lip a bit. He loved it when she did that- it made her look so...alluring.

May tilted her head and smiled, looking at the map with Shy. "That's probably it," she said, pointing to the stone structure on the map, "Well, what're we waiting for?" 

She beamed, taking off into the trees. As she went, she cast glances behind her to make sure Shy was still there. 

While she was checking, she tripped over a root. "ow!" she whispered, standing quickly. Heat rushed to her cheeks, and she turned her head-hiding it in her hood. Pain pricked her foreleg, and she rubbed it to disperse the pain.

Shy followed quickly after May. Celestia could she move- she tore across the forest like a boat on water! He galloped after her as best he could, happy that she kept checking he was following. It really made him feel like he actually meant something to her, which was certainly a post to him.

His happiness was dampened somewhat when she fell over. He ran to her side, noticing how embarrassed she looked.

"Are you ok?"

He hugged her tightly, then broke off blushing. That was a little overreacting of him. He guessed his feelings for her were making him more cautious for her safety. He didn't want to be doting though. Her being a simple mimsy was the last thing he wanted.

May hugged Shy back, but was disappointed when he pulled away. She quickly brushed it aside, holding back laugh at his blush. 

She smiled, looking up at Shy through her eyelashes. She ducked her head out of embarrassment, but looked up again. She quietly slid closer, so her face was less then an inch from Shy's. She glanced from his eyes to his lips nervously. 

She leaned closer and lightly kissed him, but broke away and blushed.

Shy was left sitting where May left him, bewildered. So it was a thing! He was sure of it now! Immediately he pulled her in and hugged her again but for a while longer. He then smiled happily at her, absolutely sure of something for once. He pulled her in and kissed her back passionately.

After some time, he broke off the kiss and grinned at May.

"That was...nice. S-shall we keep going?"

He took her hoof confidently and kept going along the route to nightmare moon's castle.

May was speechless. Her eyes wide with shock. She let Shy pull her along absentmindedly-not at all embarrassed by it. After a while, she blinked and refocused. She let go of Shy's hoof, wondering why she was holding somepony's hoof.

"Oh." she sad quietly, memories coming flooding back. "Oh right." she smiled apologetically, taking his hoof again, "Right, let's go." 

She walked with Shy towards the ruins, her mind blank. A smile played on her lips and she glanced at Shy's eyes. She pushed her way through a patch of thorny bushes into a large clearing.

Shy was a little scared when May pulled away like that, especially after she had been going along with it the rest of the way. He felt pretty relieved when she held his hoof again and smiled at him. Celestia did he like that smile. They came out into a clearing. Looking about, Shy saw a sort of stone structure on a hill. He pointed to it, grinned at May then walked up to it. 

When they came to the doors, Shy started getting uneasy. He didn't have one of those harmony thingies that those other ponies had, and if anything lurked in there then they wouldn't be very protected.

"Right, you ready to go in?"

"As long as you're here, completely." May replied, nuzzling Shy's cheek for a moment. She unsheathed her dagger and slowly opened the door. She couldn't see anything as far as the eye can go, but she had a strange feeling in her gut. "We should be careful." 


Meanwhile, in the dark shadows above the two, lurked a creature. It unfurled its giant wings and silently landed behind them. It's huge mouth smiling rather devilishly. 

Shy felt his heart leap when she said that and nuzzled him. That was a bit of a leap- going from shyly walking together, unsure as to what they were actually doing to nuzzling and affectionate words. Of course, he bevee said that was a bad thing.

It struck Shy again- what about this mare had pulled him to her? It was like she was a part of him- he had trouble being without her. Also, hadn't he been convinced he liked stallions? He supposed that he could go both ways. There are certainly ponies like that. In truth, he had no idea. He supposed it didn't really matter though.

Shy nuzzled May back and opened the door, slowly trotting in and pointing his sword about.

"Doesn't look like anypony's been here in a while."

"Well duh." May laughed, "Who would want to come here?" 

She grinned, unsheathing her dagger. She carefully walked about the ruins, searching for any danger. Finding none, she turned back to Shy. "What now?" 

The creature walked carefully behind the two, silent in every way. It stopped as the mare turned around, but relaxed when she didn't notice him. It breathed deeply, but quietly. 

"I guess we need to go deeper."

Shy walked into the main room of the castle, curious as to what the place actually hid. He was standing in sword position, ready to strike at a moment's notice. He looked to May, checking if she was okay. She seemed fine.

He was starting to get the feeling he was being watched. He carefully observed the room, trying to see whatever it was. He called out to May.

"I don't think we're alone in here. Stay cautious."

May nodded, carefully stepping throughout the building. She climbed a winding staircase before walking into a large room.  "Hey, look at this!" she laughed, waving Shy over. She stood in front of a large, velvet covered chair. She stared at the jewel encrusted lining and stone hoof rests. 

"This must be the throne room." 

"Foolish ponies" whispered the beast as it crawled up the stairs. It wound its way into the throne room and stood atop the door.
