As soon as Midnight could walk and talk her Mom's time was taken up by her beloved shop.Sure, she fed her, tucked her in every night. But she would never play with her or take any other attention to her in the day. Ever since her father left them the shop had been left in her Mother's hooves leaving no time for herself or her daughter
When she old enough to attend school she didn't have many friends there either. All the other foals had been brought up to be bold and confident , but Midnight could barley say a hello to anypony on her first day.
When she returned home she picked up a book that her mother must of left on the kitchen table and taught herself to read. After that books where thing she could open up to. When read one of her books she got sucked into another world where anything was possible.
At first it was difficult, she had never read anything before so she had to learn the word by herself, but one day, at school her teacher spotted her reading on a bench all by herself when the other foals played with their friends. Seeing the the foal was struggling she offered to give her lessons, Midnight agreed right away and started her talent.
Soon enough simple foal books turned to complex filly books, and after reading her last book, "Harry Trotter", that was in the shop she gained her cutie mark.
She ran to her mother who was sorting out books on the top shelf and looked at her little foal and saw she had gained her cutie mark. She almost fell off the ladder she was standing on and ran to her daughter to celebrate; and for the first time ever, Midnight truly believed that she was loved.
